Ellen liked to imagine himself being cool and undertaking secret missions, but he knew that he was just another ordinary teenager like everyone else. Until one day when a bomb went off in his house, and shattered the entire block, with him at the very center of the impact, and he came out from amidst the debris and the scorched corps of people he knew, dizzy, sad, miserable, in rags, but unscathed. And then he saw them, the knights in white armor, unlike anything he'd ever seen, the strange figures darting in the shadows, and strange people with fantastic powers wearing a phoenix emblem on their chest.
And he could hear a voice talking to him in his head.
"There's a war going on in the shadows, of greater consequence than any other internal strife, and every one of the enlightened must align and fight an eternal war."
"Who are you?" he asked, but there came no reply.
