Captain Sheckel became silent for a while. Her eyes became unfocused as she gave his request some thought.
Then she said, "I am the captain of this division of Lamp Bearers. It is my duty to protect my subordinates, and it will be a dereliction of that duty to put a rank 1 rookie in the most dangerous post. I cannot do what you asked for. But I can give you the opportunity to grow stronger."
Legion raised an eyebrow and asked, "What do you have in mind?"
She replied, "The most dangerous post is guarding the spirit spring. But you are not ready for that yet. So I will let you guard the prison. When you are ready to advance to rank 2 and need to complete your advancement ritual, I will let you use some of the prisoners for your ritual."
Then she asked him, "What do you say?"
