Laura King didn't pursue the matter further because it was clear that the person in front of her was being very cautious, and even if she did ask him, he wouldn't know.

Bronte nodded his head vigorously, feeling as if things had become a bit easier. Initially anxious and worried about what to do if Laura refused to go with him, especially after he had already promised Steve Harris,
now that Laura had agreed so easily, Bronte felt relieved not to be caught between a rock and a hard place.
Laura, just moments before, was dressed in very ordinary clothes, certainly different from the extravagantly dressed people Bronte had seen downstairs. But in the few minutes Bronte waited, Laura emerged again, this time dressed in a different outfit.
