Cherish Turner looked puzzled but complied, sitting across from him and starting a game of chess.
By the time William Griffith returned from answering his call, the two had already begun their match. He sat down next to Cherish, looking at the chessboard with a hint of surprise in his eyes. He glanced at Cherish, who remained calm and quiet while playing, then looked at Robert Griffith, who carefully studied the chessboard, plotting his next strategic move.
"Aha! So that's what you were planning!" Her "knight" had advanced, attacking with the "cannon," and Robert finally understood her strategy from the previous moves. In excitement, he slammed the table, startling Cherish, "Let's play another game!"
"Grandpa, I'll play with you," William chimed in.
"I won't play with you! I want to play with her!" Robert began to set up the game once more, determined to win against a girl.
William leaned in close to Cherish's ear and whispered, "How come I never knew you could play chess?"
