Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Our Enemy

He discovers that he is one of those responsible for the Zralkies' invasion, with the goal of colonizing the people there and taking over the new planet, replacing Earth, which is on the brink of complete destruction with a hair-raising prediction. Resources are severely scarce, especially drinking water.

The ship coming towards Darkin and Lorfy releases a man wearing a huge coat, more like a superhero's cape, golden in color, and a Michael Jackson-style hat of the same shade.

Before landing, the car, detecting him as a threat, starts shooting at him with multiple rounds.

"Who's this idiot who dares sacrifice himself for nothing?" says Darkin, seeing the man being torn apart even before reaching the ground.

"The idiot… processing the information… My cameras identified a human," says Lorfy.

The man's movements are precise. With one hand on his hat, he moves exactly in ways that bullets fail to pierce his coat.

"What?" says Darkin, astonished.

The same man, coming from the ship, then collides with the tower, causing no damage, spinning flexibly and always dodging the bullets from the car, which attacks with everything it has.

Darkin grits his teeth as if the action would grant him some kind of power, but he feels a powerful impact on the car door as the man punches it with great determination. Lorfy crashes against the wall, and a golden ring becomes visible on the ring finger of the mysterious man, its color matching a section of the tower still glowing faintly at its peak.

Lorfy resumes shooting at the man, who now spins even more as if he were a screw, until he manages to reach the ground, landing boldly, supported only by the index fingers of each hand.

"Damn it…" the words slip from Darkin's mouth as he witnesses the man holding himself up in an impossible position. "Lorfy, finish him, shoot everything you've got! He's definitely not human — could he be a Zralky too?"

Lorfy obeys his master's order and opens fire again on the man, who defends himself by covering his body with his massive coat, making him look even stranger.

When the car charges at him, now without shooting, one of the man's eyes is revealed — dark brown in color, but it suddenly changes to a light green that gradually glows, then returns to normal.

In silence, the man born from the ship makes a surreal leap towards his opponent. He prepares his hand for a heavy punch, making his veins swell in fury, as if about to burst from his skin.

"Surnatoy-prik," the man's voice sounds with a tone that summons an echo, which in turn summons a suspense that seems infinite, as though everything is happening in extremely slow motion.

"It can't be," Darkin's eyes widen in disbelief, unable to believe what he's hearing — the sound is too familiar.

Lorfy and the man in the coat collide with an impact that sends Darkin's car flying above the top of the Orge tower. Massive damage is caused, even making the vehicle's systems fail.

The marks of the golden-coated man's punch imprint on the car door — fortunately, on the other side. Dizzy, Darkin offers no reaction as he crashes against the steering wheel, triggering the automatic protection system that immediately shields him from serious injuries. Within seconds, he loses consciousness, and everything goes black.

Darkin opens his eyes and sees the golden boot of his enemy. He's outside the car. Looking around, he spots Lorfy crushed at a distance.

"You've made one of the worst decisions ever made in Moamba," says the man, his face still hidden by the circular hat, which bears a symbol on its front.

The hat's symbol makes Darkin's eyes widen. It's two gun-like weapons crossed in an 'X', with a hat resting like a roof above them.

"What are you talking about?" asks Darkin, while the still unidentified man extends his hand toward him.

"You're lucky, because you're my brother. Be grateful," says the man with a strong and solemn voice. "Come, I've got you."

"I remember you," says Darkin, being pulled up by the man.

"Of course you do. I'm here because I'm deeply disappointed in you. I never imagined power would blind you to the point of sacrificing the people who once had hope that things might one day change on this cursed land ruled by the Zvrodies."

"I honestly don't know what you're talking about. I lost most of my memories, and what you're saying doesn't make much sense. I've been trying to recover them. What I've seen so far hasn't been good. I had to face my own father, infected by something I never thought could exist."

"It can't be… you too…" the man says, staring into Darkin's eyes.

"Me too what?"

"You're infected… your eyes are changing."

"What are you doing here? Did you come just to punch my car, or is there something else? Or maybe to check on my changing eyes," Darkin asks, irritated.

"No. I came here for our land, Moamba. And since I'm one of the cursed, I couldn't stay away. I have to help you face the great enemy that's coming. The Zvrodies have foreseen a new great war."

"The great enemy? What do you mean?" says Darkin, not understanding anything, looking at the other man, whose face is still mostly hidden by the hat — though one of his eyes is visible and suddenly turns red.

Darkin focuses on the eye and…
