After Earnest was carried away by a few volunteers, the students started to leave. I have an idea. Let me ask professor Sierra.
"Professor, can I use this ground for the day?"
She was sitting fairly close so I asked her from my position.
"That is possible but it's out of my jurisdiction. You will have to ask the principal." (Sierra)
She looks towards a grumpy looking man. He is middle aged and has a big scowl on his face. He is unhappy, that much is clear.
But he noticed our conversation and reluctantly nodded his head. I think he agrees.
Upon confirmation, I started my experiment.
I have the earth element. But what is considered earth? Is it the soil, or maybe the minerals? Or is it the forms of soils? I have to test out the possibilities.
Soil can be of various types. Clay, chalk, silt, loam and other types. But is it just soil or even stone?
I touch the ground. It's hard soil. Geologically called head. The water contents of this soil is extremely low and there are not much air in it. Hence the density is high and it's hard.
Can I even control it? I send my mana through the soil. I can't use mana arbitrarily as it I have a limited amount of it.
I imagine the soil rising with my hand. I raise my hand and the soil does the same. Direct contact is useful for these kinds of situations. I stop. The soil has come up and made a small anthill. Although it's dense. The composition has not changed.
Then I try to control it using only mana. The efficiency drops by a bit but it is doable. The soil is flying in the air like a small mound.
I put the mound of soil down. Next, I try to analyze the soil. Appraisal is a skill that I seldom use. The results are something I had expected.
There's high amounts of iron and magnesium in this soil. Can I pull the iron ions from the soil?
I can try it. Iron is magnetic. Ferromagnetic to be specific. It needs an external magnetic field in order for it to become magnetic.
I am at a loss. I can't make a magnetic field using the mana I have. Static electricity won't work either since the charge needed is enormous.
Let's put a hold on that thought for now. How about trying a few attack spells?
I don't know any spells though. Let's just make a big boulder. How big can I make it?
I start pouring out mana and a pebble forms. With more mana, it gets bigger and bigger. I alao have to support it with my strength.
I always thought that those spell rocks were floating on air but that isn't the case. The caster's physical strength determines how heavy can you make it. If you have enough mana, even a mountain is possible.
I keep going and going and the boulder becomes a giant rock. It's about 7 meters high and about the same in diameter.
It isn't a perfect sphere but it's spherical enough.
I put it down. My mana is almost exhausted. So with Fay's previous amount of mana, this is the most I can do. It's more like a last method.
I pick it up and weigh it. Hmm…pretty heavy. I would say about 400 tons. Hmm…with enough height, this thing will hit like a dynamite.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I hadn't noticed but a bunch of people have surrounded me. They are wearing white lab coats like professor Sierra. Maybe they are teachers of this academy.
I take back my
"That was it for now. I would like try more extreme experiments alone in a secluded space."
Some become crestfallen. But one of them raises their hand.
"Mr. Belmont, I have a question."
A short man came forward and asked. He has round glasses and shaggy hair. He must be pretty busy if he can't even take care of his appearance. Or maybe he doesn't care about anything other than his research.
"Yes, if I can help you in any way."
"We all saw you using mana to utilize spells. But we never heard you chant. And you even used high level spells like earth wall and earth hammer."
"Spells are to some extent just self suggestion. They are not a necessity. If you have a good grasp on your target, you can omit it. That is only if you are imaginative enough."
My remark on spells have caused some confusion as they are all questioning my point of view.
"I see that it is hard for all of you to accept. I don't blame you. You never thought of this situation before and don't know how to deal with it. How about we do a simple experiment again?"
One of them comes forward. He did ask me a question before.
"Then, what is your affinity or element?"
"I have water. Although I don't use it for attacking stuff."
"Then what is your name? It's weird if I don't know your name."
"Oh..pardon me. My name is Vincent Rodrick. You can call me Vincent." (Vincent)
"Okay…then, can you pour some mana?"
"I can." (Vincent)
He starts emitting mana. Normally you can't see mana unless it's very dense. So everyone feels it.
"Now, keep pouring mana but strongly imagine water. Close your eyes and imagine water."
He closes his eyes and the mana begins to change. It's gradually changing the air around his hand. Water is basically hydrogen and oxygen combined. The air is changing and there's water on his palm.
Everyone is surprised. He opens his eyes and sees a ball of water on his palm.
"See, it's not that difficult. You just need to understand how visualization works. Strong imagination can save you a lot of time. You now have a water ball."
I make a ball of hydrogen gas on my palm. No one can see it.
"Any of you have fire element?"
One of them raised their hand.
"Then can you make a ball of fire? It doesn't have to be big. You can just make one."
He starts making one. The ball of fire took about a minute to complete.
"This might startle everyone but it's totally safe. Don't be afraid."
I push my hydrogen ball into the fireball. It started popping. The pops were loud. At first it frightened everyone but they calmed down.
"That was a basic chemical reaction. That will have to wait for a while before you understand what chemistry is. For now, that's all. I hope you will consider changing your perspective on magic."
I left the dome with everyone in tow.
On our way home, Hazel asks me.
"Was it alright for you to teach them that?"
"It was. They can't change overnight. I want to change them slowly. Adapt to the changes rather than struggle to fight."
Possibilities are limitless. I can't wait for how the exhibition will turn out to be.
