Chapter 2 - the hunt

~Alexander

It devastated me when my father announced I would get married. I am sure the entire world knew about it.

My 23rd birthday is coming up in a month, and I'm getting married three days before that day. You are fucking kidding me, right...

"What happened, father?" I asked him. You said you would give me time to make my decision,

I gave you time. Alexander, I gave you the whole of last year. My father snapped at me.

My mind was tumultuous as I murmured, "Can't an Alpha select whom they should marry?"

Noah blurted," It's for the best, Alexander. I'm sure Dad chose the best Luna for you, I'm sure of that!

You know how nasty their Alpha is, so what is best for an adopted child of a nightwalker pack? I rolled my eyes as I walked out of the room and said, "I believe no one except my mate can be my Luna."

What is your preference regarding the style of your wedding outfit? Do you prefer traditional attire or English? His Majesty asked me quickly before I left.

"Your choice, dad, since you picked the bride. " I was already at the door and shouted out loud enough for him to hear me.

In all honesty, I took up searching for the person who had the strawberry scent. I couldn't have imagined it, right? I was sure I had caught the faint strawberry scent!

As I was getting frustrated a month before my birthday, I wondered what to do about it (I wasn't sure it could be my imagination).

Suddenly, I remembered Maya, the witch's daughter. She was 7 years old when she started seeing visions of the future!!! They kept records of all the supernatural creatures!! There's no doubt she can help me find the person.

I cringed at the thought of venturing into that dark forest. It gave me nightmares! It has been 22 years since her mother, Cece, was accused of hexing someone to kill his entire family and him; no one has ever seen them since then.

I do not think I have a choice, either my mate or them! I braced myself and walked. Up ahead are the trees of the forest, with its gigantic trees offering shelter to sinister spirits and formidable phantoms. The chilly breeze that blew from the forest was unusually heavy, carrying the smell of fresh blood spilled on the grass. Quite unlike the trees surrounding the forest, the sky seemed in dispute with the surrounding environment.

As I walked deep into the forest towards the ornamental metal gate, which was fashioned of iron. They painted it black. I felt there was a strange aura emanating from it. Pointy spikes jutting out of the top, in order to prevent trespassers, but no person in their sane mind would think of trespassing in this house. Thick vines covered the metal grills, partly obscuring the view outside of the house.

"The gate opened with a loud creak and the cobbled path led outside onto the meadow. The landscape hosted dense and unruly grass dotted with the occasional pine tree. Featuring thick black clouds warning passersby to stay away, I walked a few steps and found the lonely house hidden in the forest. As I took a deep breath,

I knocked at the door."The door swung open, and I heard a faint "come in." As soon as I stepped in, I met a scrambled elderly woman who had pale, dull skin, puffy eyes with dark circles, and hair scattered around the bun, which a bird would happily nest into there and call it home.

My ears picked up a soft voice from behind me that said, "it took you long enough to get here, icy alpha."

Oh, don't mind, Maya, she told me 4 years ago that you would come searching for me, Cece said with a croaking voice.

Even though she had pale skin, was tall and slender, and mostly had green eyes, she still looked the same as before.

'What do you mean she told you 4 years ago that I would come looking for you?' I asked.

"She said something about your mate," Cece replied in a sarcastic tone.

A shaky voice escaped me as I moved closer to Maya and held her hand. Do you know where I can find my mate?

I don't know; he is everywhere and nowhere, as if he doesn't exist! Maya said softly, "I'm not sure what he is."

After trying a spell to find him, I could not find him, so my daughter and I concluded, Cece said sharply with a shaky voice.

As I took a deep breath in and out, OK, tell me about your conclusions - my voice tinged with fear as I spoke.

Maya replied without looking at me, "He would either be dead or cloaked if he were alive." 'D-dead or cloaked,' my gaze widening as I considered him. But if he were deceased, shouldn't I feel it?

You haven't met him/her in the first place, so you won't feel anything out of the ordinary. Cece said she was still cramped during that conversation.

'Mother, why don't you try a location spell with his blood?' She turned her head to look at me this time, looking a little excited about her experiment, present in her mother's eyes."

It would not work, Cece whispered to Maya.

It is at least worth a chance, Cece; I pleaded with my eyes.

Don't stress out too much, Alpha Alexander. It won't make a difference.

Maybe your mate died young, Maya told me, and I could clearly hear how upset she sounded when she spoke!

Despite my terrible circumstances, I can still hold on to my dream of seeing him one day.

It would be great if you could tell me which of the wolves emits strawberry scents and where I can find them? I asked.

Maya and Cece looked scared. Their faces turned pale, their eyes wide open, and their hands trembled as if they saw a ghost hovering over them!

Could you tell me what happened and why you're scared? As I growled,

In a tight fit, Cece looked at me and moved closer. What did you just say? Her voice was breaking like she had been crying for a long time.

When I was looking for my mate at a rune ceremony, I caught the faint smell of fresh strawberries. Since then, I have not come across this scent anywhere; that is why. Cece cut me off before I could finish my sentence.

When she held my hand, I was amazed by how cold and strong her hands were!

"Are you sure that it was strawberries?" she asked.

Yes, I am very certain,

As she screamed repeatedly,

"I can't believe what I'm hearing"

There is no way I can believe that this happened.

There is no way that could be true.

As she rummaged through her shelves, she pulled out an old dusty book.

What can't be true, Cece, I asked. I am getting impatient.

Then she raised her finger and gestured that I should come closer and look at the book!

'They are Aiden's family,' she said in a voice that was shaking.

Are you certain it was strawberry and not cherries or vanilla? As Maya asked this time, her voice was hoarse.

You don't need to ask me anything. Just tell me what happened. The sound of my voice was loud and cold..

Cece shook her head and said, "They are the family they accused me of hexing," looking at me with teary eyes.

As I moved swiftly, I had my fangs and claws out; I had dark eyes, my wolf's instinct kicked in, and all I could think about was one thing: ripping out their throats. All at once, I grabbed Cece and Maya's neck. I would like you to give me one reason I shouldn't rip out your throats right now. The tone of my voice was harsh.

With both of them gasping for air, Maya chuckled, "You know nothing, do you?" with a gruff voice as she spoke.

Suddenly, Cece grabbed my hands and looked directly into my soul. I wasn't involved in it. Her breath was loud and her voice was low...

How do I know you're right?

Maya replied, she can show you!

As soon as I let go of both of them, I moved an inch away from them.

It took me a minute to examine both of them before I started talking. How are you going to convince me it is true?

Then Cece coughed and rubbed her neck. I'll make you drink a potion that will enable you to see all the possibilities.

What is the cost of doing that? I asked.

I'm going to be in your head just as you're in mine !!

My voice sounds so shrill. Is this also one of your tricks?

Both of them closed their ears and said, "Can you speak a little lower? We can hear you," Maya grinned.
