A man, breathing heavily, dashed into an alley and pulled bullet after bullet from his pocket to load into his pistol.
"Seven— I've killed seven passersby! How many more must I kill?"
He nearly screamed as he spoke.
A voice, distant then close, resonated in the Void:
"Soon… You must prove you are a wicked slayer with the blood of the innocents, only then can I descend upon you and bestow upon you the supreme Divine Power…"
"How many more? How many more?" the man asked persistently, wiping the sweat from his face.
The voice laughed:
"How many? No…. if you only dare to kill a few and then beg for my reward, that's akin to a fool's dream."
The man stuttered, "But—you clearly said I just had to go onto the streets and kill—"
"Fifteen more! Kill fifteen more!" the voice commanded.
The man gritted his teeth, tightened his grip on the pistol, and stepped boldly out of the alley.
