Duncan gazed intently at the cube floating at the end of Black Sun's tendril, at the symbols on its surface that seemed to have exhausted every effort to convey their message to him.
He imagined how such a small metallic block could have been delivered to this world—delivered to this era—what method, what process it had undergone.
It was a letter, a message from the New World to the Old World. Yet, all evidence proving this had been erased by some force. Its creator might have tried countless ways to ensure that the cube could "reveal its origin," but it seemed that these efforts were unsuccessful—though unsuccessful did not mean meaningless.
The very appearance of it was a kind of interpretation, although this interpretation appeared to be a wildly bold conjecture by Black Sun. At this moment, Duncan was more than willing to believe that this conjecture was the one and only correct answer.
