As they and the selected group of villagers arrived at Haven's Rest, their eyes fell upon a scene of devastation. What should have been a thriving settlement now lay in ruins, its buildings reduced to smouldering rubble. The air hung heavy with the acrid scent of charred wood and death.
At the edge of the settlement, Gerard hopped down from Alder, and the villagers dismounted their horses.
