Chapter 7 - 07. The demons

"Don't think because they are sub elements that they are any weaker than the main ones. Some are just as strong, if not stronger," Ace interrupted Xavier. "I think we should continue with world history and leave the talk about elements for later. After the breach, Gaea must have gone into lockdown mode and drained all the mana from Earth. That's why your world doesn't know anything about mana."

"Who is Gaea?" I asked.

"Ah, I guess we haven't told you yet. Gaea is the consciousness of the Heart. She is like a mother to all life. She controls the Heart. She might have realized by now that we've found a Chosen and has reopened your dimension to the others. Since she couldn't keep it sealed forever, she had to open it at some point. I bet she's trying to form an alliance with the other major races.

"For instance, the elves often called the most beautiful race live in the Planta dimension. They're born with a natural affinity for magic, especially nature magic. Their opposites, the dark elves, are equally beautiful but vicious by nature and more attuned to the darkness element.

"Next are the beastkin, also known as demi-humans. They possess various animal features and are born with enhanced strength, speed, or intelligence depending on their species. For example, an elephant demi-human would be born with incredible strength. They're divided into clans: the cat clan, bear clan, wolf clan, and many others. They live in the Fera dimension.

"Third are the vampires. Bloodsuckers with magic centered around blood and darkness. They are divided into clans or houses based on bloodlines, each offering unique magical abilities. They are ruled by a single clan head who rises above all others to become the Vampire King. They live in the Terra dimension, which has almost no sunlight.

"Fourth, we have the werewolves. In their society, the Werewolf Alpha King and Luna Queen rule. They are organized into packs, each led by its own Alpha and Luna.

"There are other races in these dimensions, but either they are fewer in number or less civilized. For example, drakes lesser kin of dragons—are extremely powerful but rare, and they live alongside the beastkin in the Fera dimension. Giants, goblins, thralls, and trolls are more primitive. Others are scattered throughout the dimensions.

"Lastly, we have humans, who live in the Panera dimension. They hold the second largest population among all the races. Though they have kingdoms and empires, they all fall under the single representation of the Monarch Swordsaint.

"And I cannot stress this enough this is the most simplified, basic explanation of their structure. Very, very simplified."

Xavier took a breath, then said, "Now let's talk about the demons. The most notorious race in existence. Their numbers are enormous, three times the human population on Panera. They are divided into houses based on the seven deadly sins: pride, wrath, greed, envy, gluttony, lust, and sloth.

"Each house has a head. The demons have never truly united they've always been at war with each other. But we suspect one of the heads managed to ascend to the Demon King rank and unified them under one banner. With their combined strength, they breached this dimension and brought the Demon King in.

"That breach significantly weakened all the house heads and the Demon King. That would've been the best time to strike back, but unfortunately, all the dimensions were at war. Vampires and werewolves were fighting. Demi-humans and elves were clashing with humans. No one answered the call of the Heart.

"When they finally realized what had happened, they pledged to answer the call the next time it awakened. Don't underestimate the other races, though. They've managed to hold back the demons for hundreds of years. But now… war is on the horizon. All the demon heads have regained their strength."

"Now let's end the topic about demons and talk about your affinity," Xavier said.

"If you two ever became teachers, you'd be pretty bad at it," I commented, crossing my arms.

They blinked in unison, clearly not expecting that. Then both gave slightly embarrassed smiles.

"I guess we're kind of confusing, huh?" Ace said, clearing his throat. "Anyway, your elemental affinities are "

"Wait, what's an elemental affinity? And I have more than one?" I interrupted him again.

"Hmm," Ace nodded. "An elemental affinity is the element someone is born attuned to. And yes, you have more than one. Some people are born with more than one, but in your case, they were given to you through our essence."
