"What I saw?!" Akuna said, her brows furrowing deeply. "Eva, what do you mean? I didn't see anything."
The world seemed to tilt, and Eva's thoughts scrambled to make sense of Akuna's words.
Her lips parted, but no sound came out at first.
The weight of her own assumptions crushed her chest, leaving her gasping for air.
"Y-You… you didn't?" she whispered, her voice trembling, as though she didn't trust her own ears.
Her hands dropped from where they had been clutching Akuna's, falling limply to her sides.
Akuna leaned forward, her expression soft but laced with concern. "Eva, what's going on? You're panicking over something I don't even understand. Tell me what you're so afraid of."
Eva's hands trembled as she pressed them against her chest, as if trying to hold her heart in place.
"I… I thought you…" She stumbled over her words, her voice breaking.
Eva stood right away and started to walk away from Akuna.
