Di Tou's best guess was that this location was like a magnet or receiving pad of sorts. His original assumption that the reason the projection of the moon had appeared in the 'Void' was because its presence was too strong wasn't exactly wrong, it was just that he was missing a few details. The moon was intentionally that way to serve as a sort of destination marker, to help Void Returning Stage cultivators, or someone using a somewhat equivalent method to enter this destroyed world.
Of course, when this mechanism had been set up, it was likely this world hadn't been destroyed yet and was even quite prosperous!
