Chapter 9: Birth of a Hero and New Allies

As Issei and Finn got into position to start their spar, they overlooked Riveria and Lefiya in the background, watching out of curiosity. Tsubaki was also in the background, watching while sharpening her sword. The reason why Riveria and Lefiya were their cause is that they had good hearing and were elves. They heard what Issei said about not underestimating him and asking Finn to go all out.

"Riveria-sama, is what this human said possible?" Lefiya asked, curious but also not 100% believing it.

"Yes, back in the days before Gods and goddesses came down, only true heroes were a match for some of the monsters, such as Nidhogg, and the famous Albert was the only hero to manage to hurt the One-Eyed Dragon," Riveria said seriously.

"I see, but I have not heard of someone able to take on a high-level Falna with a low level before, so he is saying he is stronger than he is predicted to be," Lefiya asked now, struggling to understand the logic.

"Yes, for him to say that, he must have gone through a lot of tough training. Also, even being strong outside, getting a Falna always puts them at level 1 unless they had a Falna beforehand, which, in his case, he didn't," Riveria said now, curious about his strength.

As the conversation between the Elves has finished, we now focus on the upcoming spar, which Finn starts by going full-out straight attack on Issei, which he blocks easily by going sideways and countering his attack with his spear, then flipping himself to kick Finn on the side of his body managing to push him off balance before landing and getting into position again.

Now it was Issei's turn to attack him, shouting his move before disappearing at such speed and delivering an overhead attack.

"Breath of the Dragon First Form: Dragon's Flame!" Issei shouted.

Finn's response was to block it quickly, but by doing so, he felt the heat and strength of the attack pushing him and leaving a small crater from receiving it. This is not only Finn but also the others watching the spar. Seeing his attack blocked, Issei moved to his second form, which managed to push Finn away but also pushed him out of bounds for the spar, ending with Issei's victory.

"Breath of the Dragon Second Form: Scales of the Beast!" Issei shouted.

"So, do you see what I meant now, Finn?" Issei said as he put his spear on his back and gave a hand to help Finn up.

"Yes, I know your strength is on par with a high level 6, but from my Judgement, you are higher than that, holding the strength back. May I ask why?" Finn asked curiously.

"Hehe, I knew you figured it out, but to answer your question, it's pretty easy since gaining the Falna from Goddess Hephaestus. It's mainly training with it but also adjusting my strength with it so as not to overload the system because doing so would break it and probably cause me to jump from level 1 to something like level 6/7, for example, which would also cause a lot of problems to the body and spirit if that were to happen." Issei explained his theory.

"I see. So, to avoid causing the issue, you must adjust it in small parts. You must have a lot of training to do that, but why give yourself a Falna if you are strong without it?" Finn asked, now hoping for the answer.

"Easy, there is a monster more substantial than me, trapped in a barrier and held by close friends and family. I want to help them, so Falna helps me with training, other knowledge and skills.

"I see. Thank you for this spar; it was a great experience, even if it was short, haha," Finn replied, laughing at his misfortune.

"Hehe, it's okay, Finn. You have a great perception, but you focus on one style of spear art. I would also advise looking into other spear art styles to improve. You never know. You might be able to combine them and make your style," Issei suggested.

"Hmm, I'll look into that when we head back to the surface", Finn said while in a thinking pose, then noticed Riveria and Lefiya in the background. "Ah, Riviera, Lefiya, you ok? Need anything?"

"No, we were just watching your spar as we could hear if you were interested. My name is Riveria Ljos Alf, and this is my student, Lefiya Viridis," Riveria said while both elves bowed.

"Nice to meet you both. My name is Issei Hyoudou from Hephaestus Familia," Issei said while bowing back.

"Ano, Issei-san, was that magic you used in those attacks?" Lefiya asked curiously.

"Magic? No, that was my Sword Art skill, which I modified to work with my spear," Issei said with a head tilt.

"Whhh! Such a thing did that. It looked like magic, though. How is that possible?" Lefiya asked, shocked, including Riveria and Finn.

"You said that was originally a sword art skill. How did you come across it and adapt it for the spear?" Finn asked, curious, while Riveria listened closely.

"Well, it was my creation, so it was easy to adapt it once you got the foundations right, and my sword art skills were made from old sword art skills from the Far East," Issei said, hiding the truth that he got the idea from an Anime back home.

"Do you still have the books or information on the skilled art?" Riviera asked, wanting to look into it.

"Sadly, no, as they are rare and what I got was only to look at it while on view as it was a family heirloom, but I think some gods might know of them if you ask about it, maybe?" Issei said with a tilt.

"I see. It might be interesting to look into it, maybe a secret from the old days hidden in there," Riviera said now, in thought, as Lefiya and Finn looked at her, knowing the message.

"Hm, that's an interesting staff you got there, Riveria-san. May I inspect it?" Issei asked politely.

"Sure, but may I ask why?" Riviera said as she passed him her staff.

"Well, being a blacksmith has given me an insight into weapons and their crafts, plus the craftsmanship of how this lovely staff is made is remarkable", Issei said with a smile. "I can see it's made from Mithril to enhance magic prowess, and Holydite is interesting, and having nine magic stones embedded makes it perfect for you."

"Why, thank you. It was sent to Altena to be made by Loki's order." Riviera blushed at the compliment.

"Well, the only thing I will tell you is why it hasn't been maintained?" Issei glared at Riveria, making her stunned, before she started sweating.

"We haven't had a chance yet since we just got back from fighting a powerful monster on floor 59," Riveria said, trying to defuse the situation.

"Sigh, go figures. Hey, Tsubaki, have you got some polish and magic stones spare?" Issei asked out in the open, stunning the 3 Loki Familia and turning round to see Tsubaki holding in a laugh.

"Well, I wasn't expected to get noticed, but I got some. I'll go grab some for you," Tsubaki said as she laughed while going to her tent.

"Oh, by the way, I think the girls mentioned taking a bath earlier, so if you want to catch up with them, probably the best time, it won't take me long to maintain your staff," Issei said as he looked up.

"Ohh, I'll head out and catch them", Lefiya said, happy about bonding with Ais.

"I'll bathe later and watch how you sort my staff out so I can maintain it when in the dungeon," Riveria said.

"Okay, oh Lefiya, just be careful. I think God Hermes was scheming earlier, so if you see young Bell, don't blame him. He is clueless about what Hermes is like," Issei said as he sensed something was wrong.

"Mm, okay, I'll keep an eye out, but as long as he doesn't do anything stupid, I won't do anything", Lefiya said before rushing off to where the girls were.

"Do you think Hermes will do something like that?" Riveria asked curiously.

"Oh yeah, knowing him, I just feel sorry for poor Asfi. I have only known her for a bit and can already imagine the stress she has to put up with him," Issei said, shaking his head.

"Here you go, Issei. Some polish and some magic stones are for you," Tsubaki said as she appeared from nowhere.

Once Issei got the polish and magic stones, he grabbed a tool used to mix spices for food but made of more complex material and started grinding the magic stones into dust, then grabbing abit of polish and mixing it into a separate tub for future use. Issei then started with the central part of the staff, slowly working his way up to the main focal point, which uses the power itself.

Once done, he inspected it and nodded with approval before passing it to Tsubaki for inspection, since she was the Captain of the Familia. He wanted to get her views before passing it back to Riveria.

"So, what do you think, Tsubaki?" Issei asked.

"It's done beautifully. I never thought of using polish and magic stones your way before. Did you fancy teaching me that method later when back on the surface?" Tsubaki asked, passing the Staff back to Riveria.

"Sure, I don't mind. It's a simple method. Riveria, give it a quick feel with a low magic spell and see how much it's improved." Issei said, looking at Riveria.

Riveria nodded, feeling the power coming from her into the staff and feeling the improvement before casting a low-tier spell. Once done, she was shocked at how much it was giving out, as if it was happy. This confused her initially, and then she realised how much she had neglected to maintain it.

"I can feel the difference and now know the importance of maintaining the staff. May I get that solution from you in the future?" Riveria asked politely while bowing.

"No worries. When we get back to the surface, I'll sort a tub out for you to use," Issei said with a smile.

"Thank you very much, Issei, I'm very grateful. By the way, do you also know about making bows?" Riveria asked curiously.

"I have some knowledge about it. Are you looking for one or someone else?" Issei said with a tilt.

"Well, I do use the bow every so often, mainly for leisure, but there's another elf in our Familia that uses a bow and wanted to get one as a gift, but don't know what to get", Riveria said with a thought pose.

"Hmm, okay, well, are you looking for a normal bow or possibly a magical bow?" Issei said while noting it down in his notepad.

"Not sure… wait, you said magical bow, right?" Riveria said, looking at Issei with wide eyes.

"Yeah… hold on, you didn't think you could only get magical swords and knives, did you?" Issei said, trying to hold in a laugh.

"No, it's just now made as they don't see the value in it since it would break within 3 or 4 uses," Riveria explained, resulting in a deadpan stare from Issei.

"Sigh… I wish people would stop calling the weapons magical since they're more like disposable items," Issei said, face-palming.

"What do you mean by that, Issei?" Tsubaki said curiously.

"Well, don't get me wrong, it is magical, but the process of making them is far off. Magical weapons don't break after so many uses; they should be like any weapon. With enough knowledge and time, you can make true magical weapons. I even said this to Welf, who I think gets the message, so I will wait until he shows me his progress," Issei explained the theory.

"Hm, I see", Tsubaki goes into thought process.

After discussing weapon ideas and ideals, everyone was disturbed by the loud screaming from the lake where the girls were bathing. They saw someone with white hair running at full speed into the woods, screaming, with a red face.

"Well, my guess was correct, and I think Hermes needs a good beating," Issei said now with a deadpan face, Tsubaki laughing while Riveria was also facepalming.

"Why do the gods act like children? Hermes is just as bad as Loki," Riveria said while sighing.

"Oh, guessing Loki acts like a pervert as well, then?" Issei asked curiously.

"You have no idea she is obsessed with groping the girls in the Familia when we come home from the expedition or in the bath", Riveria said while thinking about how to punish them.

"Wow, I think my opinion of Loki dropped abit now, but then again, Gods in general came down for entertainment, so guess that's her way of letting off steam under her banner, so to speak," Issei said while tilting his head.

"True, but still causes headaches for everyone, especially when she's drunk", Riveria said with a big sigh.

"Hm, out of curiosity, is Freya just as bad as Loki or acts differently?" Issei asked.

"Well that depends, yes her Familia is rival to ours and butt heads now and again, but they normally just stay in there Headquarters or solo expedition sometimes" Finn said.

"I see… well, I should wait for Ais to spar with me with a sword since she requested it", Issei said as he grabbed a couple of wooden swords from his tent.

Freya P.O.V

"Hmm, I wonder who you are. You have such a shining soul of pure crimson, showing such dominance," Freya said to herself as she twirled her wine.

"Goddess, I have returned with some information about that adventurer you asked about," Said a tall, deep voice.

"Ah, Ottar, thank you so much, let's look, should we?" Freya said as she looked through the paperwork gathered.

"From what I heard, Goddess, he's a new adventurer that joined Hephaestus recently, but he also stopped a member of Loki Familia from trying to assault a member of the guild", Ottar said.

"I see, his name is Issei Hyoudou from a village in the Far East," Freya said

"What's your orders, Goddess?" Ottar asked

"For now, nothing. We can't exactly cause a war with Hephaestus, as it would cause major problems for us, especially for weapons in the future. I say we keep an eye on him and maybe get some of our new members to buy his weapons in the future," Freya said with a smile.

"It will be done, Goddess", Ottar said.

Normal P.O.V

The crystalline walls of the 18th Floor sparkled with their usual ethereal glow, but today they seemed to pulse with anticipation. Two figures stood facing each other in the vast clearing, drawing curious glances from passing adventurers.

Issei Hyoudou rolled his shoulders, his armour catching the light. Since leaving the Underworld behind, he'd grown stronger, more focused. The betrayal of the Gremory peerage had left deep wounds, but his time in Orario had given him purpose. Training under the Orphis of this world had helped him master his dragon god powers in ways he never thought possible.

Across from him stood Ais Wallenstein, the Sword Princess, her golden eyes sharp with assessment. Her wind-blessed sword gleamed at her side, and her blonde hair stirred in the gentle breeze that always seemed to follow her.

"Thank you for agreeing to this, Wallenstein-san," Issei said, taking Ascalon in his right hand. "I've heard much about your swordsmanship."

Ais nodded, her expression typically stoic. "Your reputation precedes you as well, Issei-san. They say you came from the Far East to help save your friends from something."

"Just Issei is fine," he replied, settling into a stance that merged dragon-style combat with the weapon techniques he'd learned in Orario. "Shall we begin?"

Without warning, Ais burst forward, her sword trailing wind magic. Issei parried with Ascalon, and the clash sent sparks flying. He could feel the raw power in her strike – the culmination of years fighting monsters in the dungeon.

"Your form is excellent," Issei commented, launching a counterattack with precise thrusts. "But I sense something holding you back."

Ais's eyes widened slightly as she deflected his strikes, her wind magic intensifying. "What do you mean?"

Issei channelled a fraction of his power, not to overwhelm but to test. "Your wind – it's powerful, but rigid. Like it's born from something unchanging."

Their dance continued across the crystal garden, weapons singing through the air. Ais's Aerial charged with more force, but Issei noticed the pattern – her magic responded most strongly to her negative emotions.

"Hatred," he said softly, catching her blade with his own. "And frustration. I recognise it because I carried the same feelings after my betrayal."

Ais faltered for a moment, her usually composed expression cracking. "The monsters... they took everything from me."

"And that drives you," Issei acknowledged, shifting to a defensive stance. "But it also limits you. Your wind magic responds to your emotions, but you're forcing it to serve only your anger."

They exchanged another flurry of blows, their movements echoing through the vast chamber. Issei deliberately left small openings, watching how Ais responded. Each time, her attacks followed the same pattern – efficient but predictable, powered by that unchanging source of rage.

"Watch," Issei said, allowing his power to flow naturally. His aura shifted from crimson to a rainbow of colours, each representing different aspects of his power. "Power isn't just about force or hatred. It's about understanding all parts of yourself."

He demonstrated with a series of attacks that blended different elements of his training—dragon fire tempered with precision, god-like strength controlled with finesse. "Your wind can be more than a weapon of vengeance. It can protect, support, and create."

Ais paused, her sword lowering slightly as she absorbed his words. The constant whirlwind around her calmed momentarily, and Issei saw something shift in her eyes.

"I... never thought of it that way," she admitted. "Since that day, I've only seen my power as a means to destroy monsters."

Issei sheathed his weapon, offering a gentle smile. "The strongest warriors I've known found their true power not in hatred, but in what they wanted to protect. Your wind is beautiful, Wallenstein-san. It shouldn't only know rage."

As they concluded their spar, the crystal gardens seemed to shine brighter. Ais sheathed her sword, a thoughtful expression replacing her usual stoic mask. Perhaps, Issei thought, this was why he went to this world. Not just to fight the isolation field, but to help others heal from their battles, just as he was healing from his.

"Would you..." Ais hesitated, then continued with unusual uncertainty, "Would you be willing to spar again? I'd like to understand more about what you said."

Issei's smile widened. "Of course. After all, we're both still learning."

As they walked back toward the Loki Familia camp on the 18th Floor, Issei felt a sense of peace. His path to becoming stronger wasn't just about physical power or mastering new techniques. It had been about understanding the heart that wielded that power – a lesson he could now share with others.

From their vantage point near the crystal walls, the gathered members of the Loki Familia watched in stunned silence. Finn Deimne, the Pallum captain, stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his experienced eyes missing nothing of the exchange.

"Remarkable," he murmured, his thumb tingling – though not with danger, but with possibility. "To think someone could read Ais's fighting style so thoroughly in a single spar."

Bell Cranel, who had been watching with bated breath, couldn't tear his eyes away from the scene. How Issei fought reminded him of his spar – the struggle to find strength in power and understanding.

"Amazing..." he breathed. "Issei-san didn't just match Ais-san in combat, and he helped her understand something about herself."

Tiona bounced on her heels, her usual energy barely contained. "Did you see how his power changed colours? That was so cool! Hey, Lefiya, did you catch how he was talking about different ways to use magic?"

The young elf nodded, her eyes wide with wonder. "It's different from how we're taught... but it makes sense. Magic responding to all emotions, not just the strongest ones..."

"That's what makes him such a valuable ally," Riveria commented, her arms crossed as she watched Ais and Issei walking back. "He brings knowledge from where he learnt, yet understands how to share it here."

As the group returned to their camp, the discussion continued. Bete, who had been uncharacteristically quiet during the spar, finally spoke up. "Hate to admit it, but he got a point. Been telling Ais for years she's too focused on killing monsters, but she never listened to me."

"Perhaps because you lack his... diplomatic approach, Bete," Finn said with a slight smile. "Though I must say, this has given me some ideas for our future training sessions."

Around the campfire that evening, the conversation flowed freely. Welf couldn't stop asking about the properties of Issei's forged weapons, while Lili asked questions about his fighting style's tactical advantages.

Bell sat next to his idol, Ais, noticing how she seemed more contemplative than usual. "Are you okay, Ais-san?"

She nodded slowly. "I'm thinking about what Issei said. About power and protection. It reminds me of something you once told me, Bell... about becoming stronger for the right reasons."

Finn, overhearing this, smiled knowingly. "Sometimes it takes an outsider's perspective to help us see what's been in front of us all along."

As the evening wore on, plans were made for future training sessions, with Loki and Hestia Familia members eager to learn from Issei's unique perspective. Issei sat quietly, enjoying the camaraderie that reminded him of better days with his old peerage. However, this time, he noted, the bonds felt more genuine, forged in mutual respect rather than magical contracts.

The crystal ceiling of the 18th Floor reflected the warm glow of their campfire, creating an array of dancing lights that celebrated this new understanding between warriors from different worlds, united in their quest to become stronger, not just in body, but in spirit.

Later that evening, as the group settled around the campfire, Tiona scooted closer to Issei, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Ne, ne, Issei! Tell us more about where you're from! Your fighting style differs from anything I've seen in Orario."

Issei chuckled, carefully considering his words. The truth about being from another world had to remain secret, known only to a select few gods and those directly involved with the isolation field threat. "Well, I grew up in a place quite different from Orario. Much smaller, less... vertical," he said, thinking of his hometown in Japan. "We didn't have a dungeon, but we had challenges."

"Really? No dungeon?" Tiona leaned forward, completely engaged. "Then how did you get so strong?"

"Through a different kind of training," Issei explained, absently touching Ascalon's hilt. "Where I'm from, we focused more on understanding the nature of power itself. Dragons, for instance, aren't just about raw strength – they're about growth, wisdom, and the balance between destruction and creation."

Tiona's eyes widened. "Is that why you decided to train with Hephaestus-sama?"

A genuine smile crossed Issei's face. "Exactly. Learning smithing from Hephaestus-sama has been... incredible. She taught me that creating weapons isn't just about hammering metal into shape. It's about understanding the material's spirit, the creator's intention, and the wielder's heart."

"Ooh!" Tiona clapped her hands. "Is that how you made your cool armour?"

Issei laughed, flexing his hand as he looked at his crafted gauntlet to cover Ddraig's crystal without suspicion. "Not exactly. This is more... innate. But Hephaestus-sama helped me understand how to channel my power through weapons better. She said something I'll never forget: 'A true smith doesn't just forge weapons – they forge connections between power and purpose.'"

"That sounds just like her," Welf interjected, moving closer to join the conversation. "Though I've never seen her as excited about teaching someone as she is with you, Issei. What's your secret?"

"Maybe it's because I bring a different perspective," Issei replied thoughtfully. "Combining craft with traditional smithing has led to some interesting results. Like this," he pulled out a small dagger he'd recently forged, its blade seeming to shimmer with an inner fire. "It's infused with dragon blood, but crafted using Hephaestus-sama's techniques."

Tiona reached out to touch it, then pulled her hand back with a delighted squeal. "It's warm! Like it's alive!"

"In a way, it is," Issei nodded. "That's something else I learned back home – everything has a life, even weapons. Especially weapons. They carry the intentions and emotions of both their creators and wielders."

"That's why you could read Ais's wind so well during the spar," Riveria observed near the fire. "You weren't just reading her movements, but the intention behind her magic."

Issei nodded, grateful for the sage elf's insight. "Magic, weapons, even our bodies – all connected by the same principles. Back home, we learned to see these connections, to understand how different types of power can work together."

"But you never said exactly where 'back home' is," Tiona pressed, tilting her head curiously.

Issei's eyes reflected the firelight as he smiled mysteriously. "Let's just say it's far enough away that coming to Orario felt like entering a new world. And honestly?" He looked around at the gathered faces, at these people who had accepted him without question. "Being here, training with all of you, learning from Hephaestus-sama – it feels more like home every day."

The conversation drifted to other topics as the night wore on, but Tiona kept stealing glances at Issei, clearly filing away every detail he'd shared. There was more to his story than he told, but his genuine appreciation for their world and its ways was unmistakable. Whatever secrets he held, his desire to learn from and help others was real, and in the end, that mattered most.

The next morning, as dawn's light filtered through the crystal ceiling, Finn approached Issei during his morning training routine. The Pallum captain watched with keen interest as Issei moved through fluid forms, his breathing creating visible patterns of dragon energy coiled around his spear.

"Those breathing patterns," Finn said, his tactical mind already analysing the movements. "They're unlike anything I've seen in my centuries of combat experience. Would you mind sharing some insights?"

Issei paused, planting his spear in the ground. "Of course, Finn-san. The Dragon Breathing Style is something I developed while learning to harmonise with nature fully. It's based on the principle that breath isn't just for oxygen – it's the bridge between physical and spiritual power."

"Fascinating," Finn moved closer, his spear in hand. "I've always believed that true spear mastery comes from understanding its spirit, not just its form. How does your breathing technique enhance this?"

Issei took a stance, his breathing steady and controlled. "Watch closely. There are five basic dragon breathing patterns, each corresponding to different aspects of combat." He demonstrated the first form, his breath creating visible energy ripples that spiralled around his spear. "This is 'Dragon's Tide Breathing' – it focuses on fluid, continuous movements, perfect for adapting to an opponent's rhythm."

Finn's eyes widened as he observed the way the energy flowed. "The way it moves... It's almost like water, but with a predator's precision."

"Exactly," Issei nodded, shifting to another stance. "This next one is 'Mountain Drake Breathing', emphasising stability and power." His breathing became deeper, the energy now condensing around his spear like layers of scales. "It's advantageous when you need to hold your ground or break through defences."

"The applications for defensive formations would be remarkable," Finn mused, his thumb tingling with possibility.

Issei continued through the forms: "Rising Storm Breathing" for explosive momentum, "Sleeping Dragon Breathing" for energy conservation and counter-attacks, and "Heaven Soaring Breathing" for aerial combat and rapid transitions.

"But the real power," Issei explained, combining different patterns in complex movements, "comes from understanding when to use each breath and how to flow between them. Just as a dragon can adapt to any situation, a true warrior must be able to change their approach instantly."

Finn tested a basic form; his experienced combat instincts quickly grasped the fundamentals. "I see... It's not just about the breath but how it connects your intent to your actions. Similar to how my thumb warns me of danger, but on a more active level."

"That's right," Issei smiled, impressed by Finn's quick understanding. "Your thumb's ability might make you especially suited to these techniques. The dragon breathing styles are all about sensing and responding to the flow of battle."

They spent the next hour practising basic forms, with Finn asking precise, tactical questions about each pattern. The Pallum captain's centuries of combat experience allowed him to grasp the underlying principles quickly, though mastery would take time.

"Thank you for sharing this knowledge," Finn said as they concluded. "I can see why Hestia speaks so highly of your abilities. Would you be open to teaching some of these techniques to our familia?"

Issei considered the request carefully. "I'd be honoured, though some aspects might need to be modified since they're specifically tied to my energy. But breathing and energy flow principles could benefit anyone willing to learn."

"Excellent," Finn smiled, his tactical mind already formulating training plans. "Perhaps we could start with small group sessions? I'm particularly interested in how these techniques might enhance our formation combat."

As they discussed the details, Issei felt a sense of satisfaction. The breathing techniques he'd developed during his recovery journey became a bridge between worlds, helping others grow stronger in their unique ways. It was another reminder that true strength came in many forms, and sharing knowledge only strengthened everyone.

(Partner,) Ddraig's amused voice echoed in Issei's mind as they returned from training with Finn. (I must admit, adapting those breathing techniques from those Japanese cartoons you used to watch was quite clever. I never expected to see a Red Dragon Emperor taking inspiration from demon slayers and human users.)

Issei had to suppress a laugh, earning a curious glance from nearby adventurers. 'Hey, don't knock it till you try it, Ddraig. Besides, we made it our own thing, didn't we? Those breathing patterns helped me understand how to channel dragon energy more efficiently.'

(Indeed,) The dragon's voice held a note of pride. (You've taken something simple and transformed it into a legitimate martial art. Though I still find it amusing that my host got the idea while binge-watching anime during recovery.)

'Speaking of which,' Issei thought, ducking into a quieter crystal corridor, 'I've been thinking about Finn's request. Let's write down the basics of the breathing styles. You know, make it more accessible for others to learn.'

(Ah, like those training manuals you researched online back in our world?) Ddraig mused. (The ones about proper breathing techniques in martial arts?)

'Exactly!' Issei nodded to himself. 'We could combine what we learned from those martial arts texts with our dragon-breathing principles. Make something that bridges both worlds' understanding of energy manipulation.'

(Not a bad idea, partner.) Ddraig's tone turned thoughtful. (Though we'll need to be careful about how we present it. I can't exactly write 'Inspired by the Red Dragon Emperor's late-night anime sessions' on the cover.)

Issei barely contained another laugh. 'Maybe we could call it "Fundamentals of Combat Breathing" or something more professional? We did spend months refining and testing each technique.'

(And months of me having to watch those shows with you through your eyes,) Ddraig grumbled good-naturedly. (Though I must admit, some of those breathing concepts weren't far from ancient dragon practices. The humans who created those stories must have had some insight into ancient lore.)

'Really?' Issei perked up. 'You never mentioned that before!'

(Well, I didn't want to encourage your obsession then,) Ddraig replied dryly. (But yes. Dragons have always understood the connection between breath and power. It's why our breath attacks are so fundamental to our being. You've created a systematic way to teach these principles to others.)

Issei pulled out a small notebook he'd started carrying for such purposes. 'Then let's start outlining it now. We can include the basic forms we taught Finn, plus the theory behind each breathing pattern. Maybe even add some diagrams?'

(Add a section about energy circulation and proper posture.) Ddraig suggested. (And perhaps something about the mental aspects – the visualisation techniques you developed.)

'Right!' Issei began jotting down notes. 'We could structure it like those old martial arts scrolls, but with modern training methods mixed in. Something that both beginners and experienced fighters could use.'

(Remember, partner,) Ddraig added with a hint of mischief, (if anyone asks where you learned these ancient secrets…)

'Yeah, yeah,' Issei grinned. 'We'll stick to the mysterious dragon sage story and leave out the part about me practising these moves in my room while watching anime. Though you must admit, those shows had some pretty good ideas!'

(I will admit nothing of the sort.) Ddraig replied with mock dignity, though Issei could feel his partner's amusement. (Now, shall we begin writing this manual properly? We have centuries of dragon wisdom to convey... even if some came through relatively unconventional sources.)

Issei smiled as he continued writing, grateful for these moments with his partner. They'd come a long way from their early days, and now they were creating something that could help others grow stronger, too. The results were compelling, even if the inspiration came from unexpected places.

Combat Arts: Fundamental Breathing Styles

By Issei Hyoudou

Introduction:

The art of Dragon Breathing draws upon the fundamental forces of nature and the cosmos, harmonising them with the practitioner's inner strength. Each style represents a different aspect of power, and when mastered, they can be combined to create unique variations suited to the individual.

Basic Principles:

All breathing styles start with proper posture and energy circulation. Visualisation is key to channelling power effectively. Mental state directly affects breathing efficiency. Each style can be adapted for different weapons and combat situations

Style Classifications:

[Personal Notes:]

While often overlooked, these two styles provide crucial aspects to the complete breathing system. Flower Breathing taught me that deadly precision doesn't have to sacrifice beauty, while Insect Breathing showed me how to move in ways that defy standard combat patterns.

[Training Integration:]

When combining these with other styles:

Flower + Moon = Enhanced grace and precisionInsect + Thunder = Superior speed and unpredictabilityFlower + Love = Beautiful protective techniquesInsect + Wind = Unmatched mobility

Remember: These styles may seem gentler than others, but their effectiveness in combat should never be underestimated. Some of the deadliest techniques come from the most delicate sources.

Back in his private quarters on the 18th Floor, in the safe area, Issei carefully reviewed the final pages of his breathing style manual. Satisfied with the comprehensive documentation, he touched the book, letting his dragon power flow gently. A small magic circle appeared, creating perfect duplicates of the original text.

(Making backup copies is wise, partner.) Ddraig commented as Issei stored most of them in his pocket dimension. (I'm curious about Hephaestus's reaction to how you've systematised these techniques.)

'She's always encouraged innovation,' Issei thought, carefully setting aside one copy for Finn. Besides, she helped me understand how crafting principles could apply to combat techniques. Some of these breathing styles work well with her weapon forging methods.'

(True enough. Though I still find it amusing that we're writing a martial arts manual inspired by those late-night anime sessions during your recovery.)

Issei chuckled softly while wrapping Finn's copy in protective cloth. 'Hey, inspiration comes from unexpected places, right? Besides, we've refined and tested everything thoroughly. These aren't just theoretical techniques anymore.'

He could feel Ddraig's amused agreement. (Indeed. From binge-watching shows to creating a legitimate combat system. You've come a long way, partner.)

'We both have,' Issei smiled, securing the wrapped manual. 'And now we can help others grow stronger, too. I'm especially interested in seeing how Hephaestus-sama might incorporate some of these breathing techniques into her forging methods.'

(Combining dragon breathing styles with divine crafting... Now that could lead to some interesting developments.)

Issei nodded, placing the remaining copies in his pocket dimension with a small flash of crimson light. Each book disappeared into the space, safely stored away for future use. He kept one final copy, planning to add notes and observations as others began learning the techniques.

'Time to find Finn,' he thought, picking up the wrapped manual. 'Something tells me he'll put these techniques to good use.'

(Remember,) Ddraig added with a hint of mischief, (if anyone asks about the inspiration for the Flower Breathing style…)

'Yeah, yeah,' Issei grinned, heading for the door. 'We'll stick to the "ancient wisdom" story.'

The manual felt weighty in his hands – not just physically, but with the responsibility of sharing knowledge that could help others grow stronger. As he walked through the crystal corridors to find Finn, Issei felt deep satisfaction. From watching anime during his lowest moments to creating something that could genuinely help others, life had a funny way of turning things around.
