CHAPTER 68: SHOCKING NEWS; AFTERMATH.
"James what's wrong?" Diana asked him worriedly, after a while. Her obvious joy about having a baby gone.
"I said this can't be happening. Diana, you can't be pregnant." James stated, his voice tight with a mixture of denial and anger.
Diana countered, her voice rising. "What do you mean I can't be pregnant James?"
James took a shaky breath. "Because I'm fucking infertile," he confessed, the words hanging heavy in the air.
Diana's heart plummeted. The weight of his words slammed into her with a brutal force. Tears welled up again in her eyes, blurring her vision.
"So how do you explain this then?" Diana asked pointing at her stomach.
"I don't know Diana, you fucking tell me. Just explain it to me because i don't fucking understand anything anymore.
"So what are you saying, James?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Are you accusing me of…?" As if realization dawned on her
Diana was livid. She drew out the needle in her hand and stood up. She walked up to him and slapped his cheek hard as she shouted, tears rolling down her cheeks. "How dare you James, how fucking dare you assume i cheated on you. You bastard son of a bitch. I gave you my many first and you still dare think i cheated on you huh?"
"Diana", James called softly as if realising his mistake, her name a silent plea on his lips. He was obviously surprised she slapped him. Well he deserved it.
"Don't fucking call me. Get the hell out!" Diana screamed pointing to the door. "Get out this fucking instant i don't want to see your fucking face".
James rubbed his chin and looked at her for a bit before walking out of her room without turning back.
James stormed out of the hospital room, slamming the door with a sickening thud. He didn't care about the sterile white walls or the exorbitant cost of repairs. All he saw was red.
Fury coursed through his veins as his fist connected with the wall in a sickening thud. A deep hole marred the pristine surface, the plaster giving way with a satisfying crack.
Harry, who'd been waiting outside, watched with a sigh. The repair would definitely cost a fortune.
"James," he called out, his voice laced with concern.
James spun around, fury contorting his face. "What the hell, Harry? What the fuck man?" James hollered angrily. "What the fuck did you tell Diana"
"I told her the truth, James," Harry replied calmly. "The truth based on the tests."
"Tests can be wrong, dammit!" James roared. "Fuck. You told me i was not going to be able to give birth. Hell a lot of doctors fucking told me, and i experienced it first hand, so what is this? Why the hell is Diana pregnant?"
Harry sighed, his expression unreadable. "I can't explain it, James. But maybe, just maybe, this is a good thing. I mean maybe it's a miracle, a chance you never thought you'd have. Like your lucky star kind of thing".
James scoffed. "Lucky star, huh? Well, she's going to need all the luck she can get."
Confusion clouded Harry's face. "What do you mean?"
James's face hardened. "She's bleeding, Harry. You had better hurry to go treat her".
Inside the room, Diana lay crumpled on the floor, tears staining her cheeks, while blood trickled down her finger tips.
"Diana!" Harry shouted. He rushed to her side, panic etching lines on his face. He picked her up and placed her gently on the bed.
"Diana! What happened?"
Diana's voice trembled as she spoke. "Why Harry?" Diana asked desperately as she sobbed.
"Just why did he behave like that? Even indirectly accusing me of cheating on him, i.... i don't understand it. Why couldn't he just be happy for us?"
Harry soothed her, treating her injury with practiced ease.
"Diana i am very sure he did not mean it", Harry responded.
"Well it didn't seem like he meant otherwise". Diana replied him sniffing. "And why accuse me…?" Diana's voice trailed off, a mixture of hurt and betrayal clouding her eyes.
"He's scared, Diana. He's been carrying this burden for a long time. Years of believing he was incapable of this… of creating life… your husband has been told all his life that he can never have a child by different doctors. He tried different treatments but it didn't seem any of them were working. Its one of the reasons why he didn't want to get too attached to you. Probably if you found out he is infertile you will leave him. Stuffs like this twists a man. Diana. You have to be patient."
Diana's shoulders slumped. "Patient? How can I be patient when he's pushing me away?"
"Because, Diana," Harry said, his voice dropping to a low murmur, "you're his light. Before you came into his life, he was in a really dark place that we were scared he might not be able to come out from. But then you came along. Alot of his habits have changed since he met you, his calmer, more possessive, less angry at everyone and i think he might even be trying to smile. You are good for him Diana, we all see it. He might not see it now, but eventually he will. We will all make him see the light".
Harry wrapped her injured arm and stared at her with solemn eyes. "This news… it's a shock, a challenge to everything he thought he knew. But he'll come around, eventually."
"Harry how do you guys plan on making someone as strong willed as him to see the light? Its like an impossible task".
Harry sighed and said nothing more. He treated her in silence. After treating her, he left the room.
