"Father and son share a bond of love, husband and wife are united. Brothers should be friendly, younger siblings should be respectful. Elder and younger should follow the order, friends and companions should support each other. The ruler should be respected, the subject should be loyal. These ten principles are universally shared. When addressing a teacher, one must not go against them…"
The sound of reading echoed clearly, and every time Freya escorted Helen and Hazel to the elementary school, she was always amazed.
Freya was now considered the guardian of the girls in the castle. Whenever someone needed to go out, she would be the one to escort them, such as Nicole going to the pizza shop, Helen going to school, and Annie going to the big market. As for Ayesha, she didn't need an escort.
It was already past nine in the morning. Helen had left around seven, and after Freya finished her breakfast, she was asked to escort a girl named Amelia to school.
Freya and Amelia were both quiet people, and they walked silently together all the way to the school entrance.
"Mr. Peter, please open the door, I'm bringing a new student." Freya called out to a small room by the school gate.
"Ah! Coming!"
Peter, holding a bun in his hand, stretched his head out from the window. Seeing Freya, he kindly said, "Ah, Miss Freya, please wait a moment."
The window was closed, and Peter put down the steamed bun, grabbed a fur coat hanging on the side. Inside the small room, there was a stove provided by the school, making it very warm.
He was very satisfied with his current life, guarding the school gate every day and watching the innocent children go to school.
After school, he would wait until everyone had left before going to the orphanage. Peter now lived at the orphanage, helping to look after the orphans. Several new orphans had arrived just yesterday.
Peter looked after the boys, while Mary took care of the girls. At night, he would occasionally get up to make rounds.
This kind of life made Peter happy. Perhaps it was because he was getting old, but he found that he had more patience with children and even liked them more.
"Creek!"
Soon, the school gate opened, and Peter waved, saying, "Come on in, don't freeze."
"Mm!" Freya nodded and led the way into the gate, with Amelia following behind.
When Amelia walked past Peter, he noticed her ears, and his eyes widened. With his years of experience and sharp eyes, he immediately recognized what race Amelia belonged to. However, since she didn't have wings, he wasn't entirely sure.
"Ha…" Peter sighed lightly. His professional instincts were acting up again, but he reminded himself that it didn't matter what race she was. He had already decided not to be a bounty hunter anymore and just wanted to live a simple life.
Amelia gave Peter a cold glance as she walked past, then caught up with Freya. Today, she was going to school, which seemed like a new experience for her.
The two of them found Helen, who was in the office. The rabbit-eared girl was surprised. "Freya, what are you doing here? Did the young master send you something?"
"Mm, the young master asked me to bring Amelia here to school. She already knows five hundred characters, so she doesn't need to attend the beginner class anymore." Freya nodded and explained. The beginner class was for people just starting to learn characters, like Hazel, who was in that class.
Now, she also referred to Lucas as the young master, since even the Princess called him "young master."
In fact, Freya had been persuaded by Annie not to dwell too much on her previous identity. The Valtoria Beastkin Kingdom was already in the past.
Living in the castle for a long time had made Freya's mindset more peaceful. She was no longer as impatient as before. Referring to Lucas as the young master didn't seem awkward anymore. After all, she ate his food every day, and all she did was a little bit of work in return. She felt a little guilty about it.
"Alright! I'll take care of Amelia." Helen said softly.
"Then, I'll come back at noon." Freya shook her wolf ears and swished her tail as she left.
The remaining two, Helen and Amelia, looked at each other. The rabbit-eared girl softly said, "Amelia, let me take you to the classroom."
"..." Amelia just coldly looked at Helen without saying a word, which made Helen a little frustrated. If she didn't even speak, how were they supposed to communicate?
She didn't push it, though, and swayed her hips as she walked ahead. Amelia silently followed behind, her gaze lingering on Helen's long, straight body. She couldn't help but compare herself to her older sister and found that her older sister was quite short.
"Hey! Demon, take this stick from me!" Ricky's voice could be heard from far away.
"Ahhhhh~~~ I'm dying!" Followed by a long and drawn-out strange scream.
This made Helen quicken her steps. The class clown, Ricky, was causing trouble again.
"Creek!"
Helen pushed open the classroom door and saw Ricky standing on a desk, holding a wooden stick, striking a pose as if he were Sun Wukong, the Monkey King.
On the floor, there was a little chubby boy who was swinging his arms dramatically, while the other students around him laughed and watched.
But now, everyone was frozen in place, slowly turning to look at Helen at the door. Especially Ricky, who quickly jumped off the desk, holding the wooden stick and looking lost.
"Good morning, Teacher Helen!" Everyone stood up and shouted in unison.
"Sit down." Helen waved her hand. She fixed her gaze on Ricky and scolded, "Ricky, you brought the wooden stick to school again, and it's morning reading time! What are you all doing?"
"Last time you all performed worse than the other class in the exam, and now you're messing around during morning reading. You're the worst class I've ever taught."
If Lucas were here, he would recognize how familiar that tone was. Every teacher always says the same thing: "You're the worst class I've ever taught."
All the students immediately sat down obediently. Ricky, aware of his mistake, threw the wooden stick to the back of the classroom and stood with his head lowered at the back. He was a regular for standing in detention.
Helen sighed. This class was truly the most mischievous. She had only walked away for a short while and already it had turned into a noisy marketplace.
"Today, we have a new student joining us," Helen said, standing at the podium. She waved at Amelia and introduced, "This new student is named Amelia. Everyone, make sure to get along with her."
Amelia stood to the side, coldly gazing at the curious students below. She wasn't the least bit nervous. Or perhaps, to her, these people seemed like they didn't even exist.
The rabbit-eared girl also noticed that Amelia had no intention of introducing herself. So, she found a spot and arranged for Amelia to sit down. Then she took a small bamboo stick and brought out the sand table. The sand table was used for practicing writing characters, as some families couldn't afford to have their children write on paper.
There were also two books: one on Classical Literature and one on Mathematics. The Classical Literature book was for recognizing characters, containing versions of the Three Character Classic in this alternate world, while the Mathematics book taught recognition of numbers and simple calculations.
Soon, under Helen's supervision, the morning reading session began again. The sound of reading echoed, of course, Amelia just sat quietly, flipping through her book.
More than ten minutes later, the class ended. Helen left to prepare her lesson plan and also to inform Steve about Amelia's situation, so that there wouldn't be any awkwardness if Amelia ignored Steve's questions during class.
As soon as Helen left, the students became lively. Many of them curiously looked at Amelia, and Ricky, in particular, became even more active. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him a little monkey.
He curiously approached Amelia and greeted her, "Hello, new classmate! I'm Ricky, and my dream is to become Sun Wukong!"
Amelia didn't even lift her head, continuing to flip through her book as if Ricky were speaking to the air!
This made Ricky a bit embarrassed. His eyes shifted, and he focused on Amelia's ears. He reached out, wanting to touch the soft feathers on her ears…
"Bang!"
Amelia casually withdrew her fist, and Ricky, with wide eyes, clutched his stomach and sat down on the floor. After all, he hadn't even touched her!
"Uuuu..." Ricky cried out pitifully, and this became one of his most embarrassing moments for many years to come. He was actually beaten and cried by a girl.
On Amelia's first day at school, she had made a classmate cry.
