Trenton Smith's hand clasped her frail, powerless fingers tightly, her palm slick with anxious sweat, ice-cold to the point where even her fingertips lacked warmth. He laid her down on the bed, his voice gentle as he replied, "Don't be afraid; no matter where you go, I'll be there with you."
Norris Moore's fingers curled unconsciously at his words, and she struggled to open her eyes in her groggy state. The man's face in her blurry vision remained unfocused, yet she could feel the depth of his gaze, so profound and intense that it made her heart tremble slightly.
"Don't..." her voice was weak, "you need to live well..."
Trenton Smith remained silent, simply turning his head to address someone outside the door, "Sophia, go call the doctor over."
Sophia had been waiting at the door; upon hearing Trenton Smith's voice, she immediately responded, "Yes."
She quickly called for the doctor.
The nurse and doctor rushed in and examined Norris Moore.
