Chapter 39 - 34.8 Androphobic Development

Another day at work and I'm already agitated and exhausted, one hour lunch is nothing when you have a twelve-hour shift.

I know I get like three separate fifteen-minute breaks throughout the day but that's just an hour and forty-five minutes, far from enough.

The cruel work hours are even the worst part I have to handle all sorts of customers, from aggressive drunks to sneaky perverts and dine and dashers.

The building has zero security and only two waitresses and the manager is the main chef alongside an apprentice he has under his thumb in the kitchen.

I chose this job because it was the easiest job to get into without identifications or qualifications, both of which I lack as a sheltered child, who isn't even a human to begin with.

The door swung open and a familiar face stepped in, a man clad in leather armor, with a long blade on his right within its sheath having only the handle visible to the open.

His leather armor was rough and unrefined with signs of weathering as there were small lacerations at separate sections from the chest area to the sides and even the hem.

He dauned his armor above a blue shirt made of wool along with a pair of brown trousers made from a combination of leather and cloth using the same color to somewhat hide the patchwork design as the leather and cloth contrast one another.

My eyes darted lower to her leather sandals with a wooden base then up to the black round handle of his sword. I gulped on reflex and he smiled then gave me a wave that seemed a little friendly but also insinuating.

I could sense some ulterior motive behind his pearly white smile as he slightly closed his deep crimson eyes and awkwardly stroked his black hair when he realized I didn't respond to his wave.

He then slowly stroked his face as if scratching his cheek which diverted my attention to a small scar on his left cheek.

His movements seemed focused and steadfast as he entered while scanning the room eagerly from side to side pausing the moment his eyes made contact with mine.

A soft smile greeted me as he closed his eyes and slightly tilted his head in an attempt to appear friendly and welcoming.

This made an awkward atmosphere especially seeing his continuous attempt at monopolizing my attention.

"Hey in case you're wondering if a guy is interested in you, just look at this body language, a guy who lacks experience with women will tend to behave awkward and nervous while trying to get your attention but a guy who has experience will approach you first with high levels of confidence," I remembered the words the other waitress Amy, spoke when I asked her about romance in the past.

I then looked back at this guy who is now at the tavern for his second visit the swordsman from that party of four yesterday. I did recall that their conversations led me to assume that all members of their party were or had been romantically involved in some way or another so matching his actions to Amy's words provided me with an inaccurate deduction.

I completed the order I was currently undertaking, then grabbed my notepad from the front and approached the table where he sat.

Maybe if turns out to be the one I could return home sooner there's no need to be intimidated by this I took a deep breath holding it momentarily before releasing it in one go.

"Just you today it seems, did you're party not follow along?" I tried not to sound overly curious while seeming professional. Approaching a guy with ulterior motives and holding a conversation is harder than I assumed it would be.

"I'm on a personal mission today, plus they had other obligations so am handling this one alone." He wore an unassuming smile that gave a wondering wave of innocence.

"You see, while I am here to have lunch right now, I do have a gathering quest to partake in after this and am also here to stock up on some beef jerk or other stuff needed for travel." He took up the wooden slab used as our menu board and slowly prodded it with his eyes.

I tried to find a response that would fit the current situation and allow to to seem interested in his line of work, but my nervousness prevented me from actually speaking.

"You seem unwell are you okay?" He gently grasps my right hand and brings the back of his hand to touch my forehead.

"I-I'm fine!" I quickly withdrew my hand as cold sweat began to trickle down my back I was so nervous I stuttered, I even forgot how to hold a proper conversation.

It was my first time speaking to a man outside of professional working conduct and with inappropriate ulterior motives such as dating someone like me with zero knowledge or experience with men, I was a nervous wreck.

I rushed back to my task along with a notepad, I recalled his order for beef jerky which we do in takeout. I returned momentarily with a small satchel of salted beef meat and brought it to his table.

"H-here's your first order." I placed it on the table before him and advertised my attention to the notepad.

"I didn't order the jerky as of yet, i only stated that i wanted to restock, but think I know what I want to order now." he gave a subtle smile that seemed to have no ulterior motives but his eyes spoke differently it had a slight need or hunger skin to that of a predator on a hunt.

This caused me to take an empty swallow and slowly retreat from his table. It wasn't the first someone looked at me this way as Roger was a major culprit of this but for some reason, his was a bit more fierce and his demeanor was a bit hypnotic.

One that would draw in innocent prey and devour them. My instinct screamed for me to retreat but my heart pounded in anticipation and my mind raced with delusions. An untainted maiden like myself with zero experience with men, an easy target, a scared bunny.
