The day passed by quickly.
After dinner, Amanda Smith heard Samuel Johnson's car pulling up. She put down her chopsticks and went out, just in time to see the man walking in from the darkness outside.
He looked haggard. Standing at the entrance to the dining room, Amanda felt he had become thinner as he approached.
Something stirred in her heart, and she couldn't help but call out, "Samuel."
Samuel Johnson, walking forward, heard Amanda's voice and couldn't help but turn around to look at her, "Hmm?"
"Take care of yourself," she said to him gently.
A sharp pang hit Samuel Johnson's heart, a flicker of something seemed to pass through his profound eyes, gone in an instant. He quickly composed himself and nodded gently to her, "I know..."
He realized he had made her start to worry. The thought soured his heart, yet she was still so gentle with him, not a single harsh word spoken.
Such kindness from Amanda made him feel cherished yet pained.
