Before attending Tom Cruise's party, Matthew first went to a movie premiere. Before the second weekend of 'Dead Man's Chest' hit, he made a point to attend the premiere of 'Wedding Crashers,' a film produced and distributed by Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinema, at the Hollywood Chinese Theatre.
Matthew walked the red carpet not because of Warner Bros., but at the invitation of Rachel McAdams.
A long time ago, in a game of give and take, he owed Rachel McAdams a favor, and this was his way of repaying it.
In the theater's VIP room, Matthew met Rachel McAdams after a long time. Shaking her hand, he said, "Rachel, it's been a while. You look even more beautiful."
Rachel McAdams, wearing a deep V red dress, smiled and revealed her dimples. "I'm very happy you came."
Truth be told, Matthew's presence gave her significant face within the cast and at the premiere. Even director David Dobkin seemed to regard her more highly after greeting Matthew.
After a brief exchange with Rachel McAdams, Matthew noticed a familiar face and said, "I see a friend over there. I'll go say hello and catch up with you later."
With that, Matthew walked towards the left front area. Rachel McAdams glanced in that direction and recognized the man talking to a voluptuous Latina woman. It was David Heyman, a producer closely associated with Warner Bros.
"Is that the friend you mentioned?"
A slightly mocking voice sounded. A woman with golden-brown hair approached slowly, looking at Rachel McAdams. "He didn't even talk to you for long before he walked away."
Rachel McAdams didn't bother looking at her. "Think what you want."
The newcomer was Isla Fisher, an Australian actress. Though they played best friends in the film, they were far from friendly on set, constantly competing with each other.
Isla Fisher snickered and muttered under her breath, "To get him to come, what did you do? Blow him? He must have really enjoyed it for him to give you this kind of favor."
Rachel McAdams glanced at her and retorted bluntly, "Yes, I made him feel great." She then gave Isla Fisher a once-over, adding, "You, on the other hand, don't even have the qualifications to blow Matthew."
Up front, Matthew had just shaken hands with David Heyman. David Heyman introduced him, "Matthew, this is Sofía Vergara, a cousin of a friend of mine. She recently came to Hollywood from Colombia."
Matthew had already noticed the striking Latina woman. Tall and with golden-brown hair cascading over her shoulders, she wore a tight sky-blue dress paired with silver heels, epitomizing modern elegance and sensuality.
Sofía Vergara's beauty was undeniably distinctive, especially her impressive bust, comparable to Alexandra Daddario's, exuding that indescribable but palpable Latin charm.
"Hello, Matthew," Sofía Vergara greeted as she extended her hand. "It's a great honor to meet you."
Matthew lightly took her hand, responding, "Hello, Ms. Vergara."
As they shook hands, Matthew felt Sofía Vergara's finger subtly brush against his palm. Initially, he thought it might be accidental, but she didn't immediately let go. He held onto the voluptuous Latina's hand, intrigued.
Her finger slid across his palm again.
"Call me Sofía," she said with a smile.
Matthew, far from being naïve, squeezed her hand slightly as her finger traced his palm again. "Sofía, it's an honor to meet you as well."
They both released each other's hands, smiling. Matthew then turned to David Heyman, asking, "David, has the shooting schedule been finalized?"
David Heyman glanced at Sofía Vergara before replying, "Akiva is still in New York negotiating location shoots. We'll decide once he returns."
Matthew gestured with a phone-call sign, "Once it's settled, let me know. I'll adjust my schedule accordingly."
"Will do..." David Heyman began, but a New Line executive soon interrupted them for a chat.
The two seemed to have important matters to discuss and quickly moved away to another area.
Sofía Vergara kept her eyes on Matthew. Coming to Los Angeles from Colombia to advance her career, she realized her fame as a renowned Latin American host and model held little weight in Hollywood. She then reverted to methods she used to rise in the ranks before, leveraging her cousin's connections to enter high-end social circles and seek a suitable celebrity for a scandal.
Initially, she thought Tom Cruise would be the best target—handsome, wealthy, and famous. A scandal with him would surely make her name known throughout North America.
But reality was far more challenging. Accessing someone of Tom Cruise's caliber was nearly impossible, especially with his impending marriage.
Tonight's premiere had low expectations for her since it was a small Hollywood production. Unexpectedly, she encountered a top-tier star like Matthew Horner.
Matthew was a sensation, an actor whose fame transcended North America and was well-known even in her home country of Colombia.
She quickly decided Matthew was an ideal target. As they exchanged small talk, her mind was working overtime, planning her next steps.
Matthew couldn't read Sofía Vergara's thoughts but could tell that the sexy Latina seemed very interested in him.
He was quite interested in Sofía Vergara too.
"I've only been in Los Angeles for a short time. Everything here is so unfamiliar to me," Sofía Vergara said, her bright, alluring smile never fading. "I've been looking for someone to show me around."
Matthew caught on immediately. "I've been in Los Angeles for several years." He suggested, "How about this, Sofía? I should be free tomorrow. How about we explore Los Angeles together?"
"Really?" Sofía Vergara's eyes lit up with excitement, her voice dropping to a thrilled whisper, "Matthew Horner showing me around Los Angeles? Every girl in Colombia will be so jealous!"
Matthew was about to ask for her phone number, but Sofía Vergara, eager, handed him a card from her purse. "This is my phone number in Los Angeles."
Looking at the number on the card, Matthew pocketed it and asked, "Where are you staying? I'll pick you up tomorrow."
Sofía Vergara seemed to catch his unspoken hint and replied, "I'm staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel for now. Call me before you come over, and I'll be waiting at the entrance."
Wait until tomorrow? Matthew glanced again at Sofía Vergara. Her figure was even more impressive than Adriana Lima's.
Just now, Sofía Vergara had been teasing him. He wondered if he could reel in this Latin beauty. The passion and fiery nature of Latina women had left a strong impression on him recently. From Sofía Vergara's signals, it seemed they had a mutual "instant attraction."
Matthew could guess that Sofía Vergara was interested in more than just him as a person. She was likely eyeing his status, influence, and celebrity power, aiming to ride the wave of his fame.
But Matthew didn't mind. Finding true love in Hollywood was almost impossible. He wasn't naive enough to think that Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Adriana Lima, or even Rachel McAdams were drawn to him solely because of his good looks and charm. Deep down, he knew his stardom was his greatest asset in pursuing beautiful women.
No one should expect a woman trying to make it in Hollywood to want nothing in return from an encounter with a man.
In the end, it was all about mutual benefit.
They chatted closely for a while. As they walked into the theater, Sofía Vergara had already linked arms with him. After the premiere, at his enthusiastic invitation, Sofía Vergara got into his car.
Meanwhile, Rachel McAdams had a brief dispute with Isla Fisher and then mingled with some key figures alone. When she returned, she saw Matthew and Sofía Vergara laughing together.
She looked at Matthew and shook her head. "How did he become like this?"
Even now, she clearly remembered their time together in acting class. Back then, Matthew was like an innocent big boy, and they were very close friends. She could even sense that Matthew had some feelings for her. If she hadn't returned to Canada, they might have ended up together.
But looking at him now, whether in media reports or what she saw with her own eyes, that innocent boy had turned into a playboy who enjoyed flirting with beautiful women.
As she thought about this, her mind drifted back to herself.
"I've changed too, so why wouldn't he?" Rachel McAdams sighed softly to herself. "Could anyone not change in Hollywood? Could anyone succeed without changing?"
Others might not know, but she knew that without those changes, she wouldn't have landed lead roles in 'The Notebook' and 'Wedding Crashers.'
Matthew and Sofía Vergara hit it off quickly. By the time they entered the theater, she was already clinging to his arm. After the premiere, she readily accepted his invitation and got into his car.
