Chapter 269 - Wanna See My Magic?

Chapter 269 - Wanna See My Magic?

As the fireball streaked toward him, Bete's expression twisted.

With a swift kick, he launched himself aside, narrowly dodging the attack.

Boom!

The fireball struck the tree he'd been leaning against, exploding in a shower of splinters and flame.

The conjured fire roared, setting the trunk ablaze.

"You bastard, what the hell are you doing?!" Bete snarled, glaring at Mahiro with fury.

He hadn't expected a sudden assault—if he hadn't reacted fast, he might've been scorched.

The fireball's power was modest; for a Level 5 adventurer like him, with high resistance, it'd only cause minor burns at worst.

"Didn't you want proof of my claims?" Mahiro said with a faint smile.

"I'm just showing you."

"Proof?" Bete's face darkened further.

This is your proof? Are you sure it's not personal?

"You looking for a fight, bastard?"

A savage glint flashed in Bete's eyes, his body tensing eagerly.

He'd craved a showdown with Mahiro before, only for Finn to intervene.

The pent-up frustration had festered, vented poorly on mobs.

Now, with Mahiro provoking him, even Finn couldn't object to a counterattack.

Excitement surged within him.

"Experiencing it firsthand beats words, doesn't it?" Mahiro replied, his smile unwavering.

"You think humans can't learn magic independently, and that we're capped at three spells," he continued.

A gleam flickered in his hand, and Sword of Eternal Flames—materialized.

Riveria and the others flinched, startled yet again.

They'd seen this trick often but remained baffled.

They chalked it up to an artifact storing weapons—its lack of mana fluctuation made it seem unlike typical magic.

Mahiro gripped the Sword assuming a poised stance.

Zzt—!

Electricity crackled around him, thunder rumbling as golden arcs danced visibly.

Lightning wreathed his blade, snapping with intensity.

Using Shunpo—he vanished, reappearing before Bete in an instant.

This was Raikiri!

Caught off guard by the lightning-fast strike, Bete's expression shifted to alarm.

He raised his arms to block.

Clang!

Metal clashed violently, and Bete was hurled backward, skidding across the ground in an ungainly sprawl before halting.

His legs buckled, nearly dropping him to his knees.

Pain lanced through his arms, compounded by a numbing jolt from the lightning that left his strength temporarily sapped.

"Lightning magic!"

Riveria gasped, her voice trembling with disbelief at the sight.

Ais's eyes widened slightly, fixated on Mahiro with unyielding focus.

"Impossible!" Tione exclaimed, her face a mask of shock.

"Mahiro, you're amazing!" Tiona cheered, waving her arms in delight.

"Come on, again!" Bete growled, defiant despite his stagger.

"That's enough," Mahiro said, shaking his head as he sheathed the Sword of Eternal Flames.

He'd used the flat of the sword—had it been the edge, Bete would've been gravely injured, not just battered and paralyzed.

A lesson sufficed; crippling him here was unwise.

"What's 'enough'? You wanted to prove something—keep going!" Bete roared.

The strike had put him at a disadvantage, worsened by Mahiro's restraint.

If it'd been a real cut, he'd have been humiliated further—a blow his werewolf pride couldn't stomach.

He didn't retaliate yet, biding time for the paralysis to fade.

"Enough, Bete! Stop it," Riveria snapped, her tone sharp.

"Four magics—Mahiro's proven he's no liar," she added.

"He's shattered common sense."

"Four magics? Don't feed me nonsense, Riveria—I'm settling this with him today!" Bete gritted his teeth.

His resilience, bolstered by his skill, quickly shook off the paralysis.

"I've seen Mahiro use two distinct magics before this," Riveria explained.

"Today, he's shown two more—four in total." She held up four fingers for emphasis.

"Mahiro's mastered four magics."

"What are you saying?" Bete recoiled, refusing to accept it.

"It's true," Tiona chimed in. "Back on the 17th floor, Tione, Ais, Riveria, and I saw Mahiro use two magics different from these."

"I saw it too," Tione nodded.

Ais gave a silent nod of confirmation.

"How can a human wield four magics?!" Lefiya had been puzzling over the group's shock.

Now, hearing the tally, her own disbelief surged.

"Four's a lot?" Mahiro mused with a faint smile.

He waved his hand, conjuring a stream of water that doused the burning tree, extinguishing the flames from his earlier fireball.

The group fell silent, stunned speechless by the fifth display.
