As I stood before the shocked Tanjiro, holding his blade in my bare hand, I could feel his confusion and fear. His eyes were wide with disbelief, struggling to process what had just happened. The blade had been descending with deadly force, and yet, here I was, holding it effortlessly as if it were no more than a twig.
The Spider Demon Mother, still crouched behind me, had stopped trembling. I could sense her exhaustion, her fear, but also the glimmer of hope that my intervention had sparked. If I had been even a second later, her life would have ended at the hands of this young demon slayer. I glanced back at her, my thoughts swirling.
If I were any later, I would've lost a potential lover, I mused to myself.
I had come to this world with a purpose, and saving her was part of it. Death had already warned me about this moment when we finalized my trip to the Demon Slayer world.
The Spider Demon Mother, a demon trapped in her own hell, manipulated by fear and the twisted hierarchy of Rui, her "family," was too valuable to lose. She deserved more than a fate of death by decapitation.
"Who are you?" Tanjiro asked again, his voice filled with suspicion but also awe. It was a fair question, given that I had just stopped his sword with my hand, a feat that defied everything he knew about demon hunting.
"My name is Alexander Seductus Von Mortis," I said with a smile, my voice smooth and calm. "But please, call me Alex."
Tanjiro's expression remained tense. His instincts were screaming at him to be wary, to prepare for battle, but his compassion—the thing that made him different from other demon slayers—kept him from attacking immediately.
"This demon has taken lives," Tanjiro said, his voice steady but filled with conviction. "I must slay her to protect the innocent."
I shook my head. "She's as much a victim as anyone else in this cursed forest," I said, still holding his blade, but with no aggression in my tone. "You're not saving anyone by killing her. She's trapped, like the puppets she controls. Don't you see that?"
His grip tightened on the sword, but I could see the hesitation in his eyes. Tanjiro wasn't one to kill mercilessly; he valued life, even when faced with demons. That was his greatest strength—and his biggest weakness.
"She's controlled by fear," I continued. "Her master threats, his cruelty, have made her act the way she has. Her puppets are nothing more than manifestations of her own terror. She doesn't deserve death, she deserves freedom."
Tanjiro's sword began to lower, though he still held it firmly.
His eyes flickered between me and the Spider Demon Mother, clearly conflicted. I could see him wrestling with the moral dilemma. The world he lived in was black and white, good and evil, humans and demons—but I had just shown him a shade of gray.
"I… I can't just let her go," Tanjiro said softly. "She killed demon Slayer, and she also consumed humans."
Just then, I sensed something—a flicker of energy from the forest. Shalltear and Lupusregina are here, I thought.
"Sorry, Tanjiro, But I don't have time to talk through it; I will be taking her and there is lower moon on this mountain." I warned him.
Before he could react, I whispered, "[Greater Teleportation]," activating the spell instantly.
In the blink of an eye, the scene around us dissolved. The wind that had been rushing through the forest was replaced by a sudden stillness. Tanjiro didn't have time to comprehend what had happened; one second I was there, and the next, I had vanished, taking the Spider Demon Mother with me.
The sensation of teleportation was like passing through a veil of energy, and in less than a heartbeat, we reappeared in the forest clearing where Shalltear and Lupusregina were waiting.
The Spider Demon Mother, still in shock, stumbled slightly as we arrived. She glanced around, her eyes wide with confusion but also relief. She had been on the brink of death, and now... she was safe, for the moment at least.
"You're safe now," I said, my voice calm and steady as I looked down at her. "But the easy part is done. Now, for the hard part… I need to release you from Muzanette's control."
The mere mention of Muzanette's name caused her to flinch, her body shaking with fear. The Spider Demon Mother wrapped her arms around herself as if trying to shield herself from the dread that flooded her veins.
"Who… Who are you?" she stammered, her voice hoarse and fragile. "How do you know that name?"
Her fear intensified as she watched me, her eyes widening in horror when she saw the fangs slowly emerging from my mouth. "Are you a demon? No… You can't be! You said his name. What are you doing to me?"
I didn't bother answering her questions. There was no time for explanations. Instead, I moved closer and, in one swift motion, sank my fangs deep into her neck. She gasped in shock, her body stiffening as the venom began coursing through her bloodstream.
My bite wasn't like Muzanette's—it wasn't about control—I could made her my slave if I wanted to but I didn't. I was a vampire god, and with my bite came the power to change her race.
Her breathing slowed as the venom worked its way through her body, loosening the grip Muzanette had over her mind. Slowly, her trembling ceased, and her rigid posture softened. She dropped to her knees, her hands limp in her lap, as if the weight of her existence had finally lifted.
She looked up at me, her eyes filled with something close to disbelief. Her lips moved, trying to form words, but nothing came out. The transformation was beginning—her body adapting to the new power now coursing through her.
Shalltear, who had been watching the scene unfold with amused curiosity, stepped forward. A faint smirk tugged at the corners of her lips. "Master, do you need me to take care of her?"
"No," I said firmly, holding up a hand. "She's not our enemy. Not anymore."
Shalltear tilted her head but nodded in understanding, her crimson eyes glowing with curiosity. Lupusregina stood beside her, a mischievous grin on her face as usual, though she seemed more interested in what would happen next than in the Spider Demon Mother herself.
"Shalltear, Lupusregina," I said, turning to them. "We have a fake demon to deal with. And I need to see her power for myself." I turned to the Spider Demon Mother. "And from now on, your name is Yuki, My first Vampire Bride."
