He paused, letting the words sink in before continuing.
"Besides that, the mist and monsters coming out of these gates are infecting people, turning them into monsters that even go after their loved ones."
Lian's voice had a sharp edge now.
"Your point?"
Alister's smile was cold, but his eyes gleamed as they narrowed into slits.
"My point is, a time is coming… a new age will soon fall upon this city. My dragons are immune to this mist, and they can take down whatever steps out of those gates. Soon, a time will arrive when this megacity will rest on my shoulders, because only I will have the power to ensure its safety."
Lian was silent for a moment, as if weighing his words. Finally, she spoke, her tone more reserved. "And you expect me to believe that? What makes you think the city will let someone like you take control?"
