After hiding in the cargo container for five days to get to Night City, Jess Regan was supposed to have someone pick her up, and even arranged a hideout and a fake identity for her. But for some unknown reason, Wei never met her contact at the cargo docks, instead winding up with the martial law military waiting for her.
Seeing that the military was about to set up a blockade, Wei knew her identity wouldn't withstand scrutiny, so she had to slip away early.
Once deprived of her Prosthetic Body privileges, the implants became not enhancements to her superhuman powers, but simply encumbrances. The human body had to bear the extra weight, and if seriously damaged, leaking prosthetic oil and engineering fluids could even hurt oneself.
