The next day, when Gu Tongshu arrived at the farm, Su Huai was playing with Gu Jiuyue and the little mink.
There were two little purple minks on the mountain—one was friendly, while the other was timid. But as soon as Gu Jiuyue called from beneath the tree, both of them would pop their heads out.
"I named them both already. The timid one is called 'Cautious,' and this one is 'Duo!'"
Gu Jiuyue cupped the smooth-furred purple mink and showed it to Su Huai. The little creature stared at Su Huai nervously, looking adorably clumsy.
"Feed her first; once she gets comfortable, she'll let you hold her!"
Su Huai grabbed a handful of shelled pine nuts and hazelnuts, opened his palm, and Duo timidly sniffed at them before delicately picking up a hazelnut as ladylike as possible and nibbling away at it.
"They're not very hungry right now. A few days ago, I stocked them up with tons and tons of dry fruits and berries."
