Every product that these alchemists create would be something that has already shown its value in the market. Not many would try to create a new one, as research on these new products would empty their wallets.
The first reason why they don't do new research is that they won't even know whether it would be a hit or a flop in the market.
Even if it were to be known that the product would be a hit, to achieve that, it wouldn't be easy. It takes a lot of time and resources. This is something not many can afford.
So, many would stick to the known products to become wealthy, unless someone unearths an old recipe that was lost. Though getting such a recipe would be costly, many would want to get their hands on them.
The reason was simple.
First, the cost of getting such a recipe would be cheaper than making your own recipe from scratch.
Second, everything that the product does would usually be detailed in that recipe.
