Chapter 6 - Rick

The group finished planning their scavenging route, with Shane organizing the people familiar with the city. The team consisted of Glenn, Alister, Andrea, Jacqui, and T-Dog. Using Glenn's firsthand knowledge of the city's layout and Jacqui's detailed insights, Shane devised a plan to maximize their chances of finding supplies.

Before they set out, Shane distributed the guns that Alister and Glenn had recovered from their previous venture. "Alright, everyone gets one. We need to be prepared for anything," Shane said, handing out the weapons.

The team silently checked their guns, the weight of the task ahead clear in their expressions. Glenn and Jacqui discussed the best spots to hit based on their knowledge, while Alister adjusted his sword and his newly acquired Beretta. The group's determination was palpable.

With a final nod from Shane, they piled into T-Dog's van, the atmosphere tense but filled with resolve. As they drove toward the city, the weight of their mission settled on their shoulders, each member steeling themselves for the challenges waiting for them.

Their destination was a department store, a potential treasure trove of supplies ranging from food to clothing to basic medical items.

As they approached the store, the group noticed the building looked relatively intact but ominously silent. T-Dog parked the van a safe distance away, and they quietly made their way to the entrance.

"Alright, remember the plan," Glenn said in a low voice. " T-Dog and Jacqui, you head to the back to check for any supplies in the storage area. Andrea and Alister, you take the first floor. I will secure the perimeter and keep an eye out for any walkers."

Everyone nodded and split into their designated pairs. The store's entrance was ajar, and the group slipped inside, weapons at the ready. The interior was dimly lit by the sunlight streaming through the windows, casting long shadows that danced eerily across the aisles.

"Stay sharp," Alister whispered to Andrea they moved methodically through the aisles, checking for any signs of movement.

Jacqui and T-Dog reached the storage area and found shelves filled with various items. "Looks like we've hit the jackpot," Jacqui said, a hint of relief in her voice. They quickly began filling their bags with canned food, bottled water, and medical supplies.

Meanwhile, Andrea and Alister navigated the first floor, keeping their eyes peeled for anything useful. "Keep it quiet," Andrea murmured, "We don't want to attract any unwanted attention."

As Glenn circled the perimeter, he encountered a few stray walkers. Glenn, with his subpar skills with weapons took them out with bit of difficulty but with his agility and dexterity pulled off.

Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from the back of the store, followed by a series of growls. "T-Dog! Jacqui!" Glenn shouted, running towards the noise.

He found T-Dog and Jacqui cornered by a small group of walkers, desperately fighting them off. Glenn hesitated using his gun or it may attract more walkers but he does not want his best friend to die. Glenn used his gun and shot the zombies that was about to bite Jacqui, he run towards the zombie that was about to get a hold off T-Dog and tackled it down.

"You guys alright?" Glenn asked, while wiping the blood off his weapon.

"Yeah, thanks to you," T-Dog panted, visibly shaken but unhurt.

"Let's get what we came for and get out of here," Glenn said, his tone filled witj hope and positivity.

With the supplies secured, the group regrouped at the van and quickly loaded their haul. The return trip was tense but uneventful, the weight of their successful mission settling over them.

As they finished loading the supplies into the van, Glenn's walkie-talkie crackled to life. He grabbed it and spoke urgently, "Guys, we've got a problem. There's a horde, we're surrounded. Go inside the department store now!"

A sense of dread settled over the group as they realized the gravity of their situation. T-Dog, wiping sweat from his brow, nodded grimly. "Alright, let's move! We can barricade ourselves in and wait it out."

Andrea, keeping her eyes on the perimeter, added, "Let's find a secure spot inside. We need to make sure we're not trapped without an escape route."

Jacqui, her face pale but resolute, said, "There's a storage room near the back. It's got a heavy door and should be easier to defend."

Alister, always ready for action, gripped his sword tighter. "Lead the way. We'll fight if we have to."

The group hurried back into the department store, Glenn and Andrea pulling the doors shut behind them and securing them with anything they could find. shopping carts, display racks, and even a heavy wooden bench.

Inside, the atmosphere was tense. The groans of the approaching walkers grew louder, echoing through the large, empty space. "Let's get to that storage room," T-Dog urged, and they quickly made their way through the aisles.

Reaching the storage room, they piled inside and began barricading the door with anything heavy they could find. "This should hold them for a while," Glenn said, trying to sound reassuring.

Andrea checked her ammo and gave a nod to Glenn. "We need to stay quiet and conserve our energy. We don't know how long we'll be stuck here."

Alister stood near the door, ready to defend at a moment's notice. "We'll make it through this," he said with determination. "Stay vigilant."

The group settled into their makeshift fortress, the weight of the situation pressing down on them. Outside, the horde grew closer, the sound of their relentless pursuit a constant reminder of the danger they faced.

Glenn took a deep breath and spoke into the walkie talkie again, "We're secured inside the department store. We'll wait for the horde to pass. Over."

Glenn proposed scouting from the roof for potential escape routes. "I'll check the roof for a way out," he suggested. "There might be something we can use."

The group nodded in agreement, understanding the urgency. Glenn carefully made his way to the roof access ladder, climbing up to get a better view of their surroundings. The roof was eerily quiet, the moans of the horde below faint but persistent.

Scanning the area, Glenn's eyes locked onto a ladder on the side of the department store. It led down to an alley, partially blocked by a truck. He quickly descended, making sure to stay out of sight of any nearby walkers.

Reaching the bottom, he heard the distant crack of gunshots. His heart raced. If there were gunshots, it meant there were other people, potential allies. Glenn carefully navigated around the truck, peeking out to see if he could spot the source of the gunfire.

Through the narrow gaps between the buildings, he saw a figure moving swiftly with a horse taking down walkers with precision. The person was in a sheriff's uniform, and Glenn's hope surged. But he was quickly overrun by a horde of walkers and is stuck inside a tank. The person went inside the tank and was surprised by the walker inside. He stumbled and picked up his gun. The sound of the gun inside of the tank rang to his ear and without any hope of getting out of the tank he thought about ending it here. Suddenly a walkie talkie spurged out a voice.

"Hey, you alive in there?"

The person rushed to grab the walkie-talkie from his belt. "Are you outside? Can you see me right now?" he asked urgently.

Glenn responded, "Yeah, I can see you. You're surrounded by walkers, that's the bad news."

The man sighed. "And is there good news?"

Glenn hesitated. "No."

"Look, whoever you are, I'm a little concerned here," the man replied, trying to keep his voice steady.

"Oh man," Glenn said with worry. "If you could see this from my side, you'd have a major freakout."

"Got any advice for me?" the man asked, desperation creeping into his voice.

"Yeah, one thing," Glenn said, taking a deep breath. "Run."

The man didn't need any further prompting. He sprinted toward the alley where Glenn had descended earlier. Glenn watched from above, guiding him through the walkie-talkie.

"Alright, keep moving straight! There's an alley to your left, take it!" Glenn directed.

Rick followed the instructions, narrowly avoiding grasping hands and snapping jaws. He turned into the alley, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

"Okay, there's a ladder ahead, climb it!" Glenn continued.

Rick reached the ladder and scrambled up, his movements fueled by adrenaline. He reached the roof, and Glenn was there to help him over the edge.

"Welcome to the party," Glenn said with a relieved smile.

Rick nodded, catching his breath. "Thanks. Name's Rick Grimes."

"Glenn, welcome." he replied, shaking Rick's hand. "Let's get you inside, Clint Eastwood.

They quickly made their way back to the roof access. Glenn led Rick down to the department store where the rest of the group was anxiously waiting.

As they entered, T-Dog, Andrea, Jacqui, and Alister turned towards them.

"Everyone, this is Rick. He's a sheriff, and he just helped us out of a tight spot," Glenn introduced.
