Chapter 25 - New chessboard

It is time for a change. Petyr makes his way out of King's Landing and goes back to Baelish Keep. He still has a lot of plans for his business empire. He could have gone the way of Amon, from the Lord of Mysteries, and replaced all of the Nobility with clones who are loyal to him. But he didn't. He will prove to the world that no matter what political manoeuvres they did, in the end, money was all that counted, and even better than that, was business as a whole. Petyr had already bitten into the Iron Bank of Braavos and had his claws deep, allowing him to become one of the Keyholders in the future.

As for Baelish Keep, Petyr was going for something akin to Venice. Jon Arryn would never allow him to acquire more land than he already has, so the only way to expand was towards the sea. But his clones will do that while he leaves the world again. He has played the hidden manipulator for a while now and pushed coins around, making his fortune bigger and leaving the realm at the King's mercy. But he had managed to leave now, after showing them a document written by Lyanna Stark herself, where she has interesting things to say, and neither Jon Arryn nor Robert Baratheon want that to become public knowledge.

After ensuring everything is going smoothly, Petyr disappears into the mirror in his room and leaves the World of Ice and Fire. His journey takes him to a galaxy far, far away.

- A Galaxy far far away -

- 32 BBY -

- Unknown planet -

Count Dooku's starship, the Punworcca 116-class interstellar sloop, lands on a secret planet. The starship was a gift from Geonosian Archduke Poggle the Lesser and has been Count Dooku's personal transport since he left the Jedi Order. Dooku leaves his ship and walks towards the grand building. As he passes through the halls, he comes across a figure, hidden in robes, who greets him.

"Welcome home, Lord Tyranus," the man says in a sepulchral tone.

"Lord Sidious. I wasn't aware that you had left Coruscant, my Master." Dooku says as he kneels before his master.

"My visit will be short. I can ill-afford to be away... but I wanted to oversee your progress, personally."

"You have no need for concern. Our search for the prime clone is nearly complete. The galaxy's most dangerous mercenaries have been pitted against one another... and I sense the victor will be a bounty hunter named Jango Fett!"

Shortly after Tyranus began to learn Sith teachings from his master, their training was interrupted by an urgent matter. A cult called the Bando Gora had reemerged and was dealing in assassination, deadly drugs, corruption, and chaos. Their influence in the galactic underworld was strong enough that Sidious considered them a threat to his plans for the Sith. This 'threat' had grown because of their new leader, Komari Vosa. Komari Vosa was Dooku's former apprentice who had been captured by the Bando Gora on Baltizaar. There she was tortured to the point of madness. Eventually, she escaped captivity and turned things around by seizing control of the criminal organisation.

But Sidious didn't like this and had ordered Darth Tyranus to kill his former Padawan.

At the same time, Darth Sidious tasked his apprentice with recruiting a template for what would later be known as the Grand Army of the Republic's clone troopers. The template was required to be capable of slaying Jedi, for some sinister and unknown reason that only Darth Sidious knew. Tyranus chose to solve both problems at once and placed an extravagant bounty on Komari Vosa's head of five million Republic credits. He pitted the galaxy's most fearsome bounty hunters against each other to kill or capture Komari Vosa, thereby finding the best template for his master's plans and dealing with his former padawan at the same time.

The one who managed to subdue and capture Komari Vosa alive was Jango Fett.

"Who is this Jango Fett?" Sidious asks.

"He is one of the two last remaining Mandalorians. He is also a survivor of the Jedi raid on Galidran. He is the perfect soldier in every way."

"And you've researched his past?" Sidious asks.

"I have interrogated a number of his former associates, yes. In fact, I've just returned from the planet Concord Dawn, where Fett was born... and his family died." Tyranus says.

"Excellent... The most dangerous men are always orphans. Tell me what you've learned." Sidious commands.

In 60 BBY, the Mandalorian warrior Jaster Mereel ascended to the role of Mand'alor, leader of all Mandalorian clans. As he came to power, Mereel started to institute a cultural reform which many had been calling for due to the Ithullan genocide nearly 150 years ago. Mereel was a man of strong ethical principles and was dissatisfied with the dishonourable and overly savage ways that had become prevalent among a number of the Mandalorian warriors. So he chose to reinstitute the old warrior codes, which had been largely forgotten over time.

So he created the Supercommando Codex. A guideline for Mandalorian behaviour. Mereel reived and modernised the ancient Canons of Honour, followed by the Mandalorian Crusaders and Neo-Crusaders. The Codex preached that any Mandalorians who wished to fight would no longer engage in the shameful activities of raiders and brigands. Instead, Mandalorian warriors would conduct themselves as highly-paid soldiers and honourable mercenaries.

Naturally, not everyone agreed to the Codex of Mereel. Two groups in particular were against it.

One of them was the New Mandalorians - a reformist political faction. It had been created following the devastating conflict with the Galactic Republic roughly 680 years ago. They operated under a separate government out of the Mandalorian capital city, Sundari. They believed in pacifism and non-violence above all. Thinking of the long history of Mandalorians, that was a very new and peculiar idea, but an understandable one, considering the result of the war against the Republic.

The second group was the one who followed the Mandalorian soldier Tor Vizsla. He is a barbaric man who dreams of the opposite the New Mandalorians want: a return to the ancient Mandalorian ways as raiders and conquerors, aiming to wage a second war of conquest across the galaxy. This group was dangerous, as they were skilled but undisciplined. They called themselves the Death Watch.

So in the end, there are now three groups. The New Mandalorians are pacifists and want peace. The Death Watch want war and conquest, and the final group, following Jaster Mereel, calling themselves the True Mandalorians.

Not long after Mereel became the Mandalor, a war broke out in 60 BBY between the True Mandalorians and the Death Watch.

.

- 58 BBY -

- Concord Dawn -

In the fields, Jango Fett is fixing the harvester they use to harvest their crops. Jango's father is the current Journeyman Protector, that's a civilian lawman on Concord Dawn, which he took over after Jaster Mereel joined the Mandalorians. As Jango is fixing the harvester, several men appear around him.

"Hey, kid." A deep voice says. "Let me see your hands."

Several members of the Death Watch, with Tor Vizsla, their leader, standing in front of Jango.

"What do you want?" Jango asks.

"We're looking for some bad men. Have you seen any strangers around?" Tor Vizsla asks.

"Other than you?"

"Smart Kid. Let's just shoot him and move on," one of Vizsla's men says as he points his gun at Jango.

"I will let him kill you," Vizsla says.

"My... my dad gave a beggar some food today... I think the beggar wore boots... soldier boots." Jango admits.

"Jaster."

"What now?"

"We'll make sure the boy gets home." Vizsla says, and they have Jango lead them to his house.

When the members of the Death Watch arrive there, they start to beat Jango's father and ask him to reveal information about Jaster, who is hiding on Concord Dawn.

"This is the last time I ask nicely. Where is Jaster Mareel?" Tor Viszla asks and punches the man in the face.

"I haven't seen him since he was exiled, and I took over his post. I'm the Journeyman Protector here... I'm the law." Jango's father says.

"No. This is the law." Vizsla says and grabs Jango by his hair and shoves him in front of his father's face. "Answer me, or your kid will be wearing your brains."

*PSHOWW*

A blaster shot pierces one of the soldiers through the head. Jango's mother and sister appear in the doorway, with his mother holding a rifle.

"You drop my child!" she shouts.

"JANGO! RUN!" his father yells, and Jango starts running into he field, crying as he hears the shouts and blaster fire, as his family are killed. But not all of them are killed; Jango's older sister, Arla, has not been killed yet.

"Blaster fire! Jaster's in there, should we go in as well?"

"No. We'll set fire to the fields. Burn 'em all." Tor Vizsla says.

"And the girl?"

"We don't leave witnesses. Take care of her, then we'll go celebrate Jaster Mereel's death." Vizsla says, smiling as the fields where Jaster and his True Mandalorians are hiding are set on fire. And inside...

"The field's on fire. Let's move." Jaster tells his men.

"Where's Petyr? Should we leave without him?" someone asks.

"Petyr can take care of himself; he'll find a way back. He always does." Jaster says. He looks at Jango.

"Your family is dead, boy! Come with us or die here too!"

The True Mandalorians are trying to find a way out of the burning fields, but don't manage to do that. It is young Jango who leads them to an irrigation tube, allowing them to escape safely.

"Check your weapons and catch your breath. We're moving out as soon as it gets dark." Jaster tells his men.

"Now, we just have to find Vizsla. He'll need to resupply."

"I can take you to the closest town. They sell food and power cells. He'll be there." Jango tells the Mandalorians.

"You know how to use a blaster, boy?" Jaster asks.

"Yes... my father taught me how to shoot."

"Then he was a good man. Very well, the boy comes with us. Notify Petyr, wherever he is and tell him about our plans. Who knows what he's up to again?" Jaster says, and they get moving.

.

Petyr was observing a couple of carriers. He has found Tor Vizsla's ships, or at least some of them and has prepared for their eventual return. He has a reason for being here, and it isn't to kill Vizsla. If he wanted that, then he should have gone to the town, where the Death Watch was celebrating and thought they had won. No, he is here for a different reason. Petyr has arrived in the Star Wars Universe in 60 BBY, just in time for the Mandalorian Civil War. He joined the True Mandalorians because he had plans for them.

In his opinion, pulling the strings from behind was what he enjoyed and what he was good at, but he had been passive for far too long now, and a change of pace was going to be a welcome respite. That's why he joined the True Mandalorians. They represented what he could use later on when he inevitably entered Mandalorian politics and created his own network in secret. The Clone Wars would surely happen, and he would use that. Playing on such a chessboard, the size of a galaxy, was going to be fun for him, and he would surely enjoy clashing with such a skilled opponent like Sidious. But that was something for the future.

Petyr moves forward and walks into the camps.

"Halt!"

"That's-... That's Pety-"

*PEWW PEW*

Petyr moves at subsonic speeds, which he has due to copying the skills and abilities of Tai Lung and grabs the Death Watch soldier by the neck, breaking it and throwing him towards the other man. With the ferocity of a leopard, he moves from place to place and kills all the Death Watch guards. Then he makes his way to one of the ships and walks in, looking for the prison area.

He hears someone cry and knows that he's in the right direction. A young girl is sitting in a small cell, crying her eyes out after witnessing her parents being killed in front of her. Petyr opens the door.

"Hey..."

The girl shakes in fear of what will happen now and doesn't look up. Petyr stands in front of her.

"Look at me, girl. Come on, don't be shy."

After a moment, she slowly raises her head and looks at Petyr. He has taken off his Mandalorian helmet and smiles at her.

"There you go. I'm leaving. Are you interested in coming with me, or would you rather stay here?" Petyr asks.

"Who-who are you?" she asks.

"My name is Petyr Baelish. I'm a member of the True Mandalorians. What's your name?"

"Arla... Arla Fett..."

"A pretty name. Say, Arla, do you want to become strong?" Petyr asks.

"...yes..."

"Then come. Now that the girl has died, it is time for the woman to train." Petyr says and holds out his hand, helping Arla to her feet.
