A sigh passed my lips as I recognized how forgetful this ruler is when someone captures his eye, so I decided to remind Enkil once more.
"Enkil, You are aware of the significant role you play in the immortality bestowed upon you by me?," My stare fixed firmly on him.
Encountering my intense gaze, Enkil's eyes filled with self blame as he hung his head in embarrassment.
Both Mekare and Maharet, overhearing my words, turned to listen in curiosity about the purpose of the king role.
"It is to forge our own place in a world teeming with humans who we view as sustenance since they outnumber us," I elucidated their duty, emphasizing that we should only sire those we can trust, not those deemed unworthy.
Pausing for a moment of reflection, my thoughts raced with the concept of the lady attempting to assassinate Enkil; if she succeeds in the future, this may be considered a turning point in history!, So this is a win-win situation.
As I turned towards the flickering flames not daring to look away more then necessarily possible, I finally gave my response to Enkil.
"She must undergo the blood test."
"If you still agree subsequently, it will be your responsibility."
Amel, the observing spirit, chose this moment to intervene in our conversation.
"Chaos creature! You must permit me to inhabit a host, I aided in your retrieval!"
"A partially deceased individual or one of your own creation would suffice, or..."
"Even better if it were yourself," the previous grin returned on the spirit but now carried a more sinister undertone.
"I can grant you greater power if you consent..."
While Mekare and Maharet attentively listened to Amel's propositions, their initial curiosity quickly turned to apprehension.
Mekare was the first to voice her concern.
"I implore you not to agree Lord Anubis, The spirit could leave you forsaken!"
"This spirit is a bloodthirsty and aggressive entity known as Amel..."
I addressed Amel with a neutral expression, concealing my true feelings of intrigue even though already knowing what could be gained from the spirit.
"Amel, are you able to switch hosts at will or is it a one-time occurrence?"
Amel fell silent for a moment.
Understanding that the original opinion hadn't been rejected so, Amel provided a concise response.
"Indeed, Anubis."
Upon hearing the response an idea formed to utilize one of the unconscious men.
Having forfeited their humanity by attempting to harm my people, I pondered the aphorism: to show mercy to your enemies is to be cruel to oneself!
Enkil, who had been eavesdropping on the conversation with Amel, straightened up and voiced his apprehensions.
"Lord Anubis, let me be the sacrifice to test Amel's powers!"
Taken aback by Enkil's sudden statement, I turned to him and posed a question.
"Enkil, your sacrifice is unnecessary."
"Have you not noticed the new arrivals, seemingly fated for this moment?"
With a sage-like nod, I spoke encouragingly, "This must be destiny! These three individuals could be the sacrifice we require," casting a knowing look at the now silent Amel.
My earlier expression transformed into an excited smile at the prospect of not having to search for susceptible individuals.
Recognizing the situation, Mekare decided to share her insights on the three intruders.
"These three appear to have a strong connection, perhaps friends or relatives!"
"If it pleases Lord Anubis, I could personally extract detailed information from them."
Before Mekare could continue, Enkil interjected swiftly.
"Mekare, have you forgotten the previous conversation with Lord Anubis? The woman belongs to me!"
Maharet, concerned for her sister's actions that indirectly offended the king, and consequently the assumed God of the dead, Anubis, spoke up.
"Lord Anubis, my King, I apologize for my sister's outburst; she only wishes to assist!"
Not wanting the situation to escalate further, I intervened.
"Mekare, the two men are under your care. Inform me once you have finished, and ensure they remain alive."
"Enkil, do as you wish with the women."
Suddenly, a guard from Kemet burst into the hall that we are currently at that would lead to the throne room with a look of urgency.
"Pharaoh, the queen has gone mad; she is slaughtering all individuals outside the palace and temples! The kingdom is on the brink of destruction!"
