Hailey's POV
Ava's cries were sharp and piercing, echoing through the stone walls which seemed to be laughing at her. I was tempted to turn around and look, but I knew too much about this place to want to do that.
I knew the truth, and I didn't tell Ava most of it. The ancient chamber was just a nickname given to this place by the members of the cathedral. Its real name was the Paradise of Torture. In the past, people who committed grave crimes were sentenced to this place to live out the rest of their days regretting their deeds and running from their past.
The mirrors were said to possess eyes that saw through the depth of the human soul and the heart of the human memory. The instant a person steps into the chamber, the mirrors would see the person's entire life, including his crimes and everything they had ever done.
In the past, it aided the Watchmen in carrying out investigations and getting the truth from whoever was suspected of a crime.
