A sudden splash of icy water slammed against Hirvan's face. He jolted violently, his body twitching on reflex, only to be met with a wave of sharp pain that exploded through his skull.
"Ah!" he gasped, a low groan escaping from his lips as his head fell forward, heavy like a stone.
His eyes fluttered open sluggishly, blinking against the darkness surrounding him.
His vision blurred. His eyelashes fluttered rapidly before the murky world around him began to solidify.
A dull yellow bulb flickered, casting a dim light over cracked walls and a dusty concrete floor. The room was small, cramped, and smelled of mould and rot. The air was thick, heavy with something fouler beneath it. A rat rushed into the far corner, vanishing into a hole in the wall.
'Where am I? Wasn't I in a car accident?'
Hirvan's memories were fuzzy. An image flickered of an overturned car, the screech of metal, and flames in the distance.
Hirvan sucked in a breath.
