How come Kennedy doesn't know?
At most, there are only a little over 20 of them, and most are from the older generation of American planes, such as 17 B-24 bombers nicknamed "Liberator" and one F-111 fighter bomber, plus two "Super Air Fortresses" B-50 bombers!
At the time, the thing was spotted by the "satellites" above the United States, and the Yanks were clearly quite shocked.

The Pentagon of course didn't believe it. The planes couldn't have just appeared out of thin air; they suspected that those military industry enterprises weren't being honest, but no one suggested a thorough investigation.
