On the winding mountain road, a bus staggered along.

Coach Ukai stood on the edge of the court, flipping through the schedule in his hand.

"Yes!" the team shouted back.
Just as Coach Ukai was announcing the schedule, Kiyoko Shimizu walked in through the gym doors with Yachi.
"Ōgi Minami should be arriving any minute," Kiyoko said.
"Just now, when Yachi and I were at the school gate, we saw their bus pulling up from the bottom of the hill."
Ukai quickly turned his head and shouted:
"Everyone, hurry and get the gym ready!"
"Yes!"
The team scattered—some grabbed mops to clean the floor, others adjusted the net.
Akira and Sugawara pushed the cart over to the sidelines.
"Huh?"
While walking, Sugawara suddenly poked Akira's arm.
"When did Hinata and that new first-year manager get so familiar?"
Akira turned his head to look.
Hinata was helping Yachi move chairs from over the cabinet.
"Oh, them?"
"Well, Hinata is... Hinata. Super friendly. Also, he and Kageyama have been coming to me at lunchtime for homework help lately."
"But I haven't had much time lately, so I handed them off to Yachi—she's in my class."
"Maybe they got close while studying?"
"This…"
While the two of them chatted casually, the players from Ōgi Minami arrived at the gym entrance.
"Excuse us!"

The empty school grounds echoed with the shouts coming from the volleyball gym.
This practice match with Ōgi Minami stretched from morning to nearly noon.
Ōgi Minami didn't win a single set.
Compared to the old Karasuno, their current strength had risen to an entirely new level.
Beating Shiratorizawa was the best proof of that.
"Thanks for the game!"
After a morning of intense competition, both sides exchanged farewells.
Ōgi Minami's team had to head back by bus, while Karasuno took a short rest to prepare for the afternoon match.
"Wow!"
"That game was amazing!!"
Yachi was practically bouncing with excitement.
She hadn't stopped squealing since the match began.
Kiyoko could hear her constant exclamations the whole time.
"Just watching it made me feel like... I don't know…"
"Like you were struck by lightning?"
She and Hinata were deep in conversation as soon as the game ended.
"Eh! I didn't expect Akira to be not only smart, but such a good player too!"
"You mean Akira? He's incredible!"
