"Uh," Mrs. Mikoto's train of thought made Fujiwara Kirito's face twitch, and he was momentarily speechless. But who was he to deny her feelings as a mother?
And this time, he really had gone too far.
Quickly, he wiped away Mrs. Mikoto's tears and tried to comfort her.
Mrs. Mikoto felt much better. At the same time, she noticed that Kirito was not wearing any clothes. A blush swiftly spread across her cheeks, and she scolded him, "Be mindful of the situation. What if Chika sees this?"
"I'm just worried that you'd misunderstand me," Kirito replied with an awkward smile, hastily putting on his clothes and changing into comfortable home attire.
Then, wrapping his arm around his wife's shoulders, he guided her to the dining table. "You must be hungry. I've had my shadow clone prepare the meal."
Kirito picked up a piece of food and held it up to Mikoto. "Ah."
"Ah," Mikoto responded, opening her mouth and taking a bite. A moment later, her eyes widened in surprise. "How did you make this? It's so delicious!"
"I just made it casually. While on a mission, I came across a restaurant with great food, so I spent some money and got the recipe from the owner," Kirito said smoothly, fabricating an excuse. Of course, he couldn't tell Mikoto that his cooking skills had drastically improved thanks to the system.
Mikoto didn't doubt him. After hesitating for a moment, her face reddened even further, and she said softly, "Izumi hasn't had dinner yet."
"You think she'll come out if we call her now?" Kirito replied with a knowing smile. Since he had consumed a Senzu Bean earlier, he wasn't hungry. He merely took a few bites and then began preparing a plate for Izumi.
"You eat first. I'll bring this to Izumi later."
"Alright," Mikoto agreed, choosing not to say anything else. Instead, she focused on tasting Kirito's cooking. Memories of the "lesson" she and Izumi had just endured with him replayed in her mind, causing her cheeks to turn a deeper shade of red, extending to her neck.
The living room remained silent for a moment until Kirito finally spoke, breaking the tension. "I went back to Konoha this time."
Mikoto's expression immediately shifted to one of worry, and she anxiously asked, "What about Sasuke?"
"I knew you'd ask that," Kirito replied with a gentle smile, pulling an envelope from his system storage. "Don't worry, Sasuke is fine. Take a look."
Mikoto took the envelope, opened it, and frowned slightly.
"Who is this little blonde girl who looks so similar to Chika?" She pointed at one of the photos, suspicion flashing in her eyes. Could this be yet another child Kirito had fathered?
"Uh, wrong photo. I saw someone who looked like Chika while traveling and thought it was interesting, so I took a picture," Kirito said, his mouth twitching. He had taken the wrong envelope. Next time, he needed to mark them properly—if he accidentally pulled out his private photos with Tsunade, he'd be socially doomed.
"Are you sure this isn't your daughter?" Mikoto narrowed her eyes, her expression dangerously sharp.
Kirito quickly waved his hands in denial. "How is that possible? Look, she's about the same age as Chika. During the time you were pregnant, I was by your side the whole time, sending shadow clones on missions. How could I have possibly had an affair?"
Mikoto considered this, then nodded. "That's true. But I hope you'll consider Izumi's feelings more."
Kirito exhaled in relief. During Mikoto's pregnancy, he had indeed been with her, ensuring she was well cared for. That had gradually led her to accept him completely.
Of course, if she knew that the girl in the photo was actually Chinatsu, the daughter he had with Tsunade before they got together, things might not go so smoothly.
"Ahem." Kirito cleared his throat, quickly putting away Chinatsu's photo. He pulled out another envelope from his system storage—after double-checking it this time—and handed it to Mikoto. "Alright, stop overthinking. Here, take a look at Sasuke."
Mikoto immediately forgot about the previous photo, quickly opening the envelope. When she saw the pictures of her son, her eyes welled up with tears.
"Alright, Sasuke is safe and well. You should be happy," Kirito said, gently wiping her tears away.
"Yeah," Mikoto replied with a sad smile. "He's really grown up. Did you meet him?"
"I did. That guy is still as frustrating as ever," Kirito said, nodding. He didn't delve too deeply into his interactions with Sasuke but asked, "Do you want to see him?"
Mikoto nodded instinctively, then hesitated before shaking her head. A trace of sorrow flashed across her face. "As long as he's safe. If we meet now, he'll ask me about the Uchiha massacre, and I don't want to lie to him."
"Then let's wait until the right time," Kirito said, pulling out another photo. This time, it was of Sasuke as an adult. "Take a look at this."
Just as Kakashi and Jiraiya had recognized the older Sasuke instantly, Mikoto, as his mother, naturally did the same.
She looked at the photo in shock. "Is this… Sasuke?"
Kirito nodded. "To be precise, this is Sasuke from a parallel universe. In his world, the Uchiha clan was really wiped out, and he was the sole survivor."
Mikoto's expression darkened. "That child must have suffered so much… Where is he now?"
"They traveled back to their own timeline. They didn't want to interfere too much with this world's progression. But don't worry—he's doing well. In that world, he's married and has a cute daughter, just like us."
"That's good." Upon hearing this, Mikoto smiled, relief washing over her features. She was concerned about Sasuke's well-being, but knowing that he had a family of his own eased her worries.
She clutched the photos tightly and hesitated before asking, "Can I keep these?"
"Of course. I brought them just for you," Kirito said, seeing the warmth in her expression. He then smirked playfully and added, "Besides, Sasuke is my stepson, after all. I won't be jealous of my own son."
"Thank you." Mikoto felt warmth spread through her chest. She didn't think there was anything strange about Kirito's words. Smiling, she leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek before resting her head against his shoulder.
