Chapter 2 - Bonding Ceremony

The Bonding Ceremony

A rite where one bonds with a monster and begins their journey as an Awakened.

Bonding with a monster grants a unique ability while also stabilizing the body. As the monster grows in power, so too does its human partner.

Standing among 30 students on the grand stadium, I prepared to bond with my monster. The academy director gave a long-winded speech about "significance" and "potential"—but honestly, I was too distracted by the tiny lion cub sitting on my lap.

The lion cub resting on my lap was no ordinary beast—it was the offspring of my father's partner monster, a creature with Seventh-rank potential.

In this world, monsters are graded from Rank 1 (weakest) to Rank 10 (strongest), though even that hierarchy is dwarfed by the true powers: Lord, Grand Prince, King, Emperor, and Tyrant-grade monsters.

Meanwhile, my so-called twin, Michel, smugly cradled her wolf cub—a reward from the elite organization she had joined.

This world is ruled by powerful factions called organizations—groups of elites who recruit and conquer to expand their influence. My sister eagerly accepted their offer, while I declined.

At first, my parents were furious… but they eventually let it go, knowing I'd never obey them anyway.

Luckily, I had a hidden advantage: my system.Once activated it guaranteeing rapid growth in power. But this blessing could also be a curse—such potential would draw unwanted attention from any organization I might join.

Not keen on ending up as a lab experiment, I chose to become an adventurer—a grudging title given to those too weak (or stubborn) to join even the lowest-tier organizations.

Now, while my sister trains under the Thunder Temple (one of the continent's top first-grade organizations), I walk a lonelier path.

But with my system, I knew sooner or later these so called organizations will be under me.

The director's speech concluded as students were called forward one by one. The first to go was a boy with bat like monster cub. They stepped onto the stone platform where the ritual would take place.

Human and monster stood facing each other on the ancient stone. A pained expression crossed both their faces as droplets of blood seeped from their bodies. The crimson beads merged mid-air, then separated into two distinct streams before flowing back - one into the human's heart, the other into the monster's core.

In a flash of energy, the monster dissolved into pure essence and was absorbed into the human's body. The entire process took mere minutes. The boy staggered momentarily, disoriented, then steadied himself with visible effort.

The Director presented her with a fist-sized glass jewelry box. Inside lay a fingernail-sized black crystal, its surface glittering with thousands of white specks. This precious object - called a 'Refinement Mold' - is crucial for cultivation.

This crystal is used to construct a Refinement Engine within one's heart - the core apparatus that purifies mana in the body. Both monsters and humans face natural limits in mana storage capacity, but purity determines true strength.

For monsters, pure mana enables easier Advancement and Evolution. For humans, refined mana provides overwhelming advantages - allowing them to outlast opponents of equal or even higher levels.

The bonding ceremony continued until finally, it was my turn. Carrying Ragnar - the name I'd given my lion cub - I stepped onto the platform and placed him on the opposite side of the ancient stone. As I stood in position, a sudden gust of wind swept through my entire body. It wasn't ordinary air, but the palpable flow of mana - thick, potent, and alive with energy.

The ritual commenced instantly. I felt Ragnar's essence merging with mine through that invisible mana current, a connection forming deeper than mere partnership. Unlike others who showed strain, the process felt... natural.

"You're done," the director announced, his voice tinged with surprise. He handed me my Refinement Mold - the precious black crystal that would become my cultivation foundation. With the ritual complete, I returned to my seat to observe the remaining bonds while cradling my newly empowered companion and also looking at the Sytem notofications which now flooded in front of me.
