Midnight in the Trial of the North. . .
Pitter. Patter.
Pitter. Patter.
There was some light rain falling on a vast and large forest filled with giant trees, the forest was teeming with animals and monsters alike but a certain race was safe...
Depending on the monster.
A blonde haired man was tying his silky hair back into a pony tail, or atleast he tried, he kept messing up and the tie either falls out or his hair is just too long.
"Maybe I should cut it."
He mumbled, his voice calm and soothing in the late hours.
The man sighed as he reached to put the hair tie away, but something soft and warm brushed his hand and snatched the tie away.
"Haven't I taught you how to tie your hair a long time ago?"
It was a sweet and soothing voice.
A woman wearing a simple green tunic with a gentle smile on her face, her beautiful brown hair flowed in the wind as she entered the hut.
"I'm probably the only elf here that can't tie his own hair without having his wife tie it for him."
He said as he turned his back and let his wife brush his hair.
She smiled, his hair was silky and smooth...
"It would be a shame to cut such beautiful hair."
She said somberly.
This elven tribe was situated in a forest, their houses were high up in the trees, very few monsters could even scale the staggering height.
The way to reach their home was a secret only to them, no other tribes know of this secret route.
Suddenly, a gentle but loud horn echoed through their village.
The man just finished tying his hair, a somber look appearing on his face, the wife saw this and couldn't help but worry.
"It has started, my love..."
The man stood up from where he was sitting and embraced his wife, running his fingers through her beautiful brown locks.
The wife embraced him as well, she hugged him very tight, surprising strength for such a delicate looking woman like him.
"You promise you'll come back?"
Said the elven woman, she let go of her embrace and went to grab the man's armor and weapon for him, helping him wear it.
The man nodded, gritting his teeth silently.
"I'll come back." the man said as he took his weapon and went out of the hut, the cool breeze brushed past his skin and the ethereal glow of the moonlight that shimmered through the leaves of the trees above made him look dazzling.
He turned around and looked at his wife over his shoulder, there was a long silence for a moment, the only sounds were the other soldiers already being dispatched and walking along the sky bridges.
Then he finally spoke, his words were confident and he had a calling smile on his dashing face:
"I always do, so just wait for me okay?"
With that he leapt off from the platform and disappeared.
His wife sat down where her husband was laying down, she inhaled the scent of the pillow and it brought tears to her delicate face.
"It's not just me who's waiting..."
She placed a hand on her belly, she hugged the pillow tighter as she curled up in the blankets where her husbands scent was left.
"May the wind and the moon guide you, Vaelthor..."
