Chapter 11 - Two Years Without Love

When Samuel got the divorce papers, he sent the papers directly to his lawyers to get the whole proceedings out of court and negate any divorce between him and Kaitlin. The divorce process was stopped two weeks after Kaitlin had left. In the last two years, Samuel has been taking care of the company for going anything else in his life. His parents had started to worry about him. His sister attempts to get him to socialize outside of work, but he has turned every occasion down. She had even tried to get him to go out with Celia and her, but every time she got him to go out, he would leave within five minutes of arriving at the venue.

"Knock, knock," Celia said as she stood in the doorway to Samuel's office.

Samuel looked up from the document he was looking over and motioned her into the office. He turned back to the papers he was looking over as she made her way inside.

"I brought some documents you need to sign," Celia said as she placed the documents next to her. She would use any excuse to come into his office and get close to him. Celia stood next to him on his left-hand side.

Samuel closed the document he was revising and looked at the folder Celia had placed on his desk. He picked it up and started to look over it. "Is there anything else?" Samuel asked as Celia was still standing next to him.

Celia gave him a shy smile and cleared her throat before saying, "Will I be accompanying you tonight to the dinner party my parents are hosting?" Celia asked.

In the last two years, Nathen had only spoken to him a handful of times, and every time Samuel saw Nathen, he could feel Nathen's dislike toward him. "No, I haven't received an invitation, and the last thing I want to do is cause any unnecessary discomfort," Samuel said, continuing to look over the papers.

Celia was getting annoyed with Samuel's behavior. In the last two years, she had not been able to get Samuel to pay attention to her like he used to. Celia had believed that at her return, things would go back to what they were before she left. Yes, Samuel was married to her sister, but that didn't matter to Celia because she knew that Samuel still loved her—or at least that was what she believed at the beginning.

Celia could still remember the day Laura had called her to inform her that Kaitlin was leaving and that she needed to get back. She had been on the fence about returning home since she had taken the money back then, but the money was running out, and she knew that she could convince Samuel to come back to her and give their relationship another chance. But now, two years had passed, and things between Samuel and her had gotten colder. "Nathan called me this morning and told me to let you know about the party," Celia said smiling at Samuel.

"Fine, I will meet you on the bottom floor after work," Samuel said. He pulled another folder toward him and continued to look through it. Celia got frustrated, turned around, and walked away.

"Why is Samuel acting this way?" Celia questioned outside the office door.
