Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Violet's POV

Pouring all my attention into what I was doing, I prayed someone would call him away, what was he even coming towards here for anyway? I wondered angrily and in my anger, I mistakenly pricked my finger with a needle.

"Ouch!" I winced shaking my wrists, now his cologne was closer, and even with my hair covering the sides of my face I could see him coming, Grandma Charlotte wasn't going to like this one bit.

"Watcha doing?" He asked, his head a few inches away from mine, I could hear the smile in his voice.

"Nothing," I said too quickly and his brows arched slightly, a glint of amusement he always seemed to possess lurking behind them.

Facing him fully, I tucked my hair behind my ear"Fine I'm doing something, a lot actually" I agreed rolling my eyes and he chuckled.

"You're doing a great job for sure. I've been watching you for some time and I can only say I'm impressed" I looked up at him and gone was the flirty look on his face ...he was serious and he'd also been looking at me! Nicole wasn't wrong after all.

"Oh, these," I said casually "I must be very graceful since I'm a bit tired" I shrugged, making sure to avoid any eye contact with him.

There was silence for a while before he spoke again.

"If you didn't tell me this was your first time I'd have said you were a professional," Mason said, running his long fingers along the table, his hands brushing past mine in the process.

Raising my eyes, our eyes locked but the moment only lasted for a few seconds since we were interrupted by a loud cough...

It was Rhoda, she didn't look pleased, her lips were now painted bright red and their corners tilted downwards. As much as I disliked her, I was grateful she showed up, it was beginning to get awkward anyway.

Stepping forward, she placed her hands over his arms possessively, cocking her head towards me before turning to him.

"Mason," she purred in a low seductive voice, her eyes lowering to her now more exposed breasts and then back at him before she bit her lips.

Watching her, I thought I could puke at the sight of her. Even though I'd been crazy in love with Adrian I was sure I didn't go to great lengths to mark my territory, what she was doing was simply embarrassing. She reminded me of some of the silly boy-crazy girls in high school.

"Yes, Rhoda?" Adrian said, his tone hinting at irritation.

"Hans has prepared your outfits. I just came to remind you to try them on, it'll save you the stress of forming unnecessary conversations with commoners " Rhoda said in mock innocence, her eyes staring icily at me as she caressed his chest.

At her words I flinched, why did she hate me so much? We barely even knew each other.

"She's new in the pack, and needs to be welcomed, and since you wouldn't do it at least let me do it alone," Mason said tiredly as he rubbed the bridge of his nose, a bored look on his face.

"Hmmm" Rhoda scoffed "I only wonder what impression a commoner has when the Alpha speaks to them" she hissed, her hands now off his shoulders.

"That's enough Rhoda" Mason said, shaking his head in what I guessed to be irritation.

She ignored him.

"They start getting ideas, you're one lucky bitch to be able to see the Alpha face to face. You don't even deserve to know him, talk less of speaking to him!" Rhoda continued speaking aloud and a few people turned toward our direction.

"That's enough Rhoda!" Mason said in a much louder voice, a green vein popping along his forehead as his jaws ticked, fingers curling to form a clenched fist, he banged his hands against the wooden table and a deadly silence filled the room.

His eyes were fiery and even I was scared. I could see his chest move up and down and the heavy sound of his breathing escape his nostrils. Just like poof, she disappeared, she was gone.

His reaction reminded me of what my grandmother had said. I could feel goosebumps spread on my arms, Not knowing what to do I began to twist my fingers and bite the walls of my mouth.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his brown eyes filled with concern as he titled my chin.

I let out a sigh and nodded.

"I'm sorry for what happened. I shouldn't have snapped at her that way. I lost my temper" Mason said in a low faraway voice, tousling his hair.

"It's nothing, she was getting a bit out of hand. Someone had to put her in place " I said, a weak smile on my lips, I was beginning to feel weak.

"Yeah, you mentioned something about being a bit tired" he reminded me, his eyes back to normal now filled with an expectant look.

"Don't bother about me, I'm alright. Besides, I prefer working alone sometimes" I said, waving a dismissive hand in the air.

"And sometimes you like working with people. You just said so" he winked. I couldn't help but smile.

" You'll end up delaying me," I said, my hands now folded beneath my breasts.

" And why's that so? You think an alpha doesn't have domestic skills?" He teased wiggling his brows playfully.

"I'm sure I'm very right. Look I appreciate your help but you'll just be interfering" I added too tired to make any comeback.

" Try me, I'll be your apprentice for the day. Now what should I do?" He asked picking up a pack of pins.

" Do I have a choice?" I knew I was defeated.

"No you don't " he winked at me again and with that I found myself teaching an Alpha. He was quick to grasp whatever I showed him and I was grateful for his help.

"You see I'm not so bad," he said each time he got it right on the first try, I rolled my eyes and he laughed each time.

My eyes wandered around for a bit and I could see over a dozen pairs of eyes on us, they watched us with keen interest and I could only imagine what they were thinking.
