At this point in the book, we need to rewind a bit and revisit what was happening with Sun Yixie and Jiang Muchan.
Just a quarter of an hour earlier, as result of falling for Sun Yixie's tactic of "luring the tiger away from the mountain," Shixiongzi had hurriedly left the execution platform with four Hall Masters. Before he departed, he loudly ordered the Fire Lotus Sect disciples surrounding the platform to "chop the two on the stage, Sun and Jiang, into mincemeat."
He said as much... but when it came time to execute the order, things did not go as smoothly.
As we've mentioned multiple times earlier, the minions of the Fire Lotus Sect were all a disorderly mob. They could bully ordinary people easily with their numbers and weapons, but asking them to deal with individuals skilled in Kung Fu was a different story entirely.
