Chapter 1 - New Land

Kade Volker isn't what you'd consider a protagonist. He didn't have an amazing life, unique powers or a unique story. He was just like everyone else. Living his life day in and day out. Sure, the world is filled with ups and downs, but Kade gets through it all as he always does. But throughout his life he was always looked down upon by everyone else. Never really given a chance to prove himself. That experience made him long for the day when he could finally get the chance to prove himself and be someone others look up to.

Kade is sick and tired of constantly being underestimated, looked down upon and picked on. He always had that drive to get better but never had the proper opportunity to become something more. Kade however did live a pretty calm life, nothing major or interesting happened. He didn't really have his parents around, not that he minds. They weren't great parents to begin with.

After high school was over, Kade went out on his own leaving his parents behind and starting a new life. But that's easier said than done. With the way the world is, some things are incredibly difficult. The world is unforgiving and ruthless. If you don't step up and take charge, your destined for failure. Kade did his best, but his best wasn't what he needed. After a tough day he just wanted to sleep and forget about the harshness of the world. Easier said than done though. Because the news is filled with bad news, nothing ever good news.

Sure, good news would pop up here and there, but It's mostly bad. Living in America is a stressful thing. Kade laid down on his bed, still wearing his casual clothing, and just looked at the ceiling. Eventually his tiredness catches up to him and his eyes slowly close. But as he laid there, he felt an odd sensation around him. He opened his eyes and was shocked to see a crack of glowing light above him. The rift like event above him has a blue energy leaking out of it and this energy wraps around Kade's body.

Kade tried to fight back but it was pointless as he was dragged into the rift against his will. Once inside the rift all he saw was blue and white flashing lights. The rift behind him closed and trapped him in this strange dimension. The light around him begins to latch onto his body and envelope him causing him to feel some pain coursing through his entire body before he passed out.

He couldn't tell how long he was out for but eventually he regained consciousness. He slowly opened his eyes and immediately noticed he was not in his room anymore. He was somewhere he didn't recognize. It was a small living room, and he was on the couch. A TV was across the room and a kitchen area was behind him. He did not recognize this room, it was not his house. But how did he get here?

He then remembered that rift like event that pulled him through. Maybe he ended up here and if that's the case whose house did he just appear in? He sits up and looked around before he heard a voice.

"Oh! You've woken up." A voice said.

Kade turns his head to the voice and saw a bald old man with a wooden staff. The old man walked towards Kade.

"I was beginning to think you wouldn't wake up." The old man said. "Are you alright young man?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." Kade answered.

"Do you mind telling me how you ended up on my Island?" the old man asked.

"Island?" Kade asked.

"Yes, my island. I saw a bright flash of light and when I came to investigate, I saw you lying on the shore." The old man explained.

"Sorry for arriving on your island uninvited." Kade apologized.

"Ah it's fine. I don't get many visitors anyway." The old man said, brushing off Kade's apology. "But back to my question. How did you get here?"

Kade looked at the ground as he thought about the events leading up to now.

"Well, I'm not sure to be honest." Kade answered. "A rift like event opened above me when i was in my house and it pulled me through. Next thing I know, I'm waking up here."

The old man stood there processing this information. It was definitely a unique story, but Kade didn't know if this old man would believe him. It did sound farfetched so he wasn't so sure if the man would believe him.

"That is... certainly a tale." The old man comments. "But I've heard of weirder ones."

"Wait, you believe me?" Kade asked, completely surprised by this news.

"Of course." The old man answered. "When you've lived as long as I have and live in this wacky world of ours, you tend to experience the unbelievable."

"I guess that makes sense." Kade mumbled.

"What's your name, young man?" The old man asked.

"Kade. Kade Volker." Kade replied. "You?"

"You can call me Roshi." The old man, now named Roshi, said.

Roshi. At least Kade now knows the man's name. Though, he has a feeling that this old man isn't frail. Call it a hunch, but Kade has a feeling that this man he just met has more to him than what he can see. He can't explain the feeling; he just has it. Before he could talk more, Roshi looked at the front door.

"It seems he's arrived." Roshi said.

Kade was confused.

"Who?" Kade asked.

Before he receives an answer, the front door of the house opens, and a short man walks into the house. The man didn't appear to have a nose which Kade found weird. The short man walked towards Roshi before taking notice of Kade's presence and grew curious.

"Uh, Who's this?" The Short man asked.

"A Guest, he showed up on my island an hour ago." Roshi answered.

"Showed up? Is he a new student?" the short man asked.

"No, he is not Krillin." Roshi answered. "How he appeared is quite extraordinary."

The Short man, now named Krillin, crossed his arms as intrigue filled his eyes.

"Extraordinary how?" Krillin asked.

"He states that he was pulled through a rift, and he ended up here." Roshi answered.

"A rift huh?" Krillin asked. "Not the weirdest thing that's ever happened, but it's up there."

Krillin then turned his attention to Kade who was still sitting on the couch.

"Got a name?" Krillin asked.

"Kade." Kade said.

"I'm Krillin." Krillin introduced.

Krillin then noticed something on Kade that caught his attention. He narrowed his eyes at Kade who was confused before his eyes widened.

"Is that a tail?" Krillin asked, surprised by what he saw.

Kade once again was confused until he looked down at his waist area and saw a brown furry tail. When it moved, he felt it moving. Meaning it was attached to him. Kade was surprised, so surprised that he jumped up off the couch.

"I have a tail!?" Kade said in an alarmed fashion.

"You act like you never had one before." Krillin comments.

"I didn't!" Kade quickly said. "How do I have a tail?"

"Maybe that rift changed you." Roshi theorized.

Krillin then realized something vital regarding Kade's tail.

"Hold on a second. Has a tail and looks human." Krillin mumbles before his eyes widen. "he's a Saiyan!"

Roshi's eyes widened while Kade was more confused.

"What's a Saiyan?" Kade asked.

So many questions yet so little answers.

"They're an alien race of warriors." Krillin answered. "There aren't many of them left since their home planet got nuked by Frieza years ago."

"Frieza?" Kade asked. "I'm getting answers but i keep getting more questions."

Krillin and Roshi look at each other for a moment before nodding at one another. They then return their gazes to Kade.

"let's take things slow." Krillin said. "There's a lot you're going to need to know and a lot we need to know about you."

All Kade does is nod, accepting this. But little did he or anyone else know, things were going to get a little more exciting.
