Chapter 52 - CHAPTER 51: Monster

Seeing the scene before her, Manuela knelt on the ground and cried sadly: "All this is because of me. Without me, none of them would have died."

"It's not your fault," Javier comforted her.

Manuela looked at everyone and said, "How is it not my fault?"

"The cost was high, but it was very effective. Thanks to this, you're still alive," said Hidalgo, looking at Manuela.

"You should have let me die," Manuela cried and said. Hidalgo looked at Manuela intensely: "No, I can't just let you die."

"You're a lunatic," Leon said, looking at Hidalgo.

Hidalgo laughed loudly and said, "Considering you guys brought my daughter back, I'll let you have a quick death." After saying that, Hidalgo walked away.

After he left, the ceiling above cracked, and the monster they had encountered in the church reappeared, rushing toward them. At this moment, the monster seemed much bigger.

Everyone started shooting, and Javier grabbed a powerful grenade launcher and began attacking violently. The monster had a thick layer of armor, and the damage dealt was limited.

Under the intense firepower, the monster let out a miserable scream, and its attacks became even more fierce. Two soldiers were knocked down and temporarily lost their combat effectiveness.

Manuela sang a song at that moment. After hearing it, the monster stopped attacking and looked at Manuela silently. "As long as I sing, he won't attack me," said Manuela.

"This is very strange. Could it be that this monster was once a human being?" said Krauser.

This monster was actually Manuela's mother. After being injected with the virus, she mutated, but still remembered the song she used to sing to her daughter when she was a child.

After the monster stopped moving, everyone started attacking, and soon knocked it to the ground. At that moment, the monster was already dying, and its tentacles slowly extended toward Manuela.

Manuela held one of the tentacles in her hand and felt her mother's affection. "Mother," said Manuela, and the monster heard her words.

Its eyes turned into human eyes, and it looked deeply at Manuela's face, as if trying to remember her forever. Then tears flowed from its eyes, and it slowly closed them.

Upon seeing her mother die, Manuela knelt beside the body, crying sorrowfully. Krauser had been injured on his arm, and Leon was bandaging the wound at that time.

"Are you okay?" Leon asked. "This injury is nothing for a soldier, rookie," Krauser replied with a frown. Unfortunately, he didn't know that this injury would directly lead to his retirement and the loss of his ability to continue as a soldier.

After leaving, Hidalgo headed to the huge factory outside. "Stupid Americans, do you think you can defeat me?"

At that moment, a massive plant opened its buds, and Hidalgo opened his arms. Then his entire body was swallowed by the buds, and he became one with them.

Javier comforted Manuela: "Don't be sad anymore. Your mother also hoped you would live well. Let's get out of here quickly." Manuela nodded.

Leon contacted his superiors, hoping for possible air support. At that moment, the entire place began to shake, and everyone was almost knocked over by the tremor.

"What's going on? Another monster?" Krauser was already furious with these zombies and biochemical weapons.

Then, the roof of the building was pierced, and a massive monster fell through. Everyone started shooting. After a while, the monster fled, leaving behind a large claw.

"Let's leave quickly, this place is about to collapse!!" Javier shouted, and everyone ran out fast.

Everyone returned to the military camp. All the zombies there had disappeared. The camp was eerily silent. Then, a loud roar echoed.

A huge monster appeared in front of them. Everyone looked like ants compared to it. "Is this another biochemical weapon?"

It was also the first time Javier had seen such a massive monster. "Everyone take cover and shoot!" Javier ordered, taking Manuela to hide behind a bunker.

"Feel the true power of the virus," Hidalgo's voice came from the monster.

Manuela hadn't expected her father to turn into a monster too.

After learning that the monster was actually Hidalgo, everyone was shocked but continued to shoot. The bullets that hit the monster felt like tickles, and Javier's grenade launcher caused only minimal damage.

"Come here, Manuela. Let me ease your pain," said Hidalgo.

"Let her become the same monster as you? In your dreams, you bastard," Javier snapped, pulling out his beloved rocket launcher.

"Did you see where he got that from, rookie?" Krauser looked at Leon and asked. Leon shook his head.

Javier blew off one of the monster's legs with the rocket.

"It's useless. My body can regenerate. Even if it's destroyed, it will grow back," Hidalgo said.

"Rather than follow a monster like you, I choose to at least die like a human!"

After Manuela said that, she ran toward Hidalgo, who struck at her. Javier, seeing what was about to happen, rushed to her side in an instant and pulled her into his arms, avoiding the monster's attack.

Krauser, watching from the side, was shocked by Javier's speed. At that moment, his expression changed—he thought Javier had also been injected with the virus to become so powerful.

Manuela broke away from Javier's arms. Her hands ignited with flames, and her whole body appeared more radiant. The monster's arm that attacked her was instantly reduced to ashes by Manuela's flames.

But the monster's limbs regenerated. "You can't kill me."

The monster's huge mouth opened, revealing Hidalgo's head—though it looked terrifying.
