"Wait, Yondu. Alan, all of us see Peter as one of the most important people in our lives. But Peter is no longer a child—we have to respect his decision."
Yondu, held back, was filled with confusion and anxiety. His gaze flickered between Alan and Gamora.
At that moment, two figures appeared at the ship's entrance—Gwen, following Alan's orders, had swiftly taken Mantis away from Ego's planet.
Now, the only living being left on the planet was Star-Lord.
"Yondu, the kid has grown up. You need to let go and let him make his own choices. He has his reasons."
But Yondu, overwhelmed by worry, had clearly lost his composure. Even so, he didn't lash out at Alan or the others.
He knew how important this group was to Quill. If Quill returned and found out Yondu had attacked his teammates, he'd be furious. They had only just begun to mend their bond.
"Don't stop me! I have to bring Quill back!" Yondu shoved Gamora's arm aside and raised his elemental blaster.
Before leaving, he was determined to shoot that damn brain of Ego, as vengeance for all the children who had died by Ego's hands.
He had betrayed the Ravagers because he couldn't bear to see Quill end up like his other brothers and sisters—another victim of Ego.
Zzz!
Electricity surged through Yondu's entire body, making his veins, already bulging from his agitation, even more pronounced. With a thud, he collapsed, convulsing on the floor.
"Hey, I figured this was the fastest way to calm him down. He wasn't listening to reason anyway, was he?" Rocket Raccoon smoothly lowered his taser gun, having knocked Yondu out cold.
Nothing worked faster than this.
"I am Groot," Baby Groot murmured softly.
Rocket immediately snapped, "Of course, I could have let Mantis put him to sleep gently, but did you think about it? The moment she got close, Yondu would've figured out what we were up to!"
Inside the ship, Rocket was yelling. Outside, explosions roared, and the deafening sound of the planet collapsing filled the air.
As Ego's planet disintegrated, thick smoke spread everywhere. Chunks of debris were sent flying—some even crashed into the ship, with a few smashing against the windows.
Gwen clenched her fists nervously. "Alan… Quill, he…"
Alan turned to her with a dazzling smile and shrugged.
"Quill will be fine. Do you really think he's dumb enough to die with Ego?"
Of course, Alan knew that originally, Quill had intended to die alongside Ego.
But in the end, Yondu sacrificed himself to save him.
Now, the events had shifted slightly. Alan wasn't about to let anyone die on Ego's planet—being tied to that scumbag even in death was way too unlucky.
"If your soul was stuck with Ego even after death, wouldn't that be the most disgusting thing ever?" Alan smirked, noticing how Gamora had stretched her neck, staring intently at the ship's entrance like a stone waiting for its lost love.
Then, out of the thick smoke, a familiar figure emerged—Quill, covered in dust and grime, stepping into view. His modified jet boots had allowed him to escape just in time.
More importantly, after awakened his Celestial power, Quill had learned to wield his abilities more effectively.
"Why are you all looking so grim? Were you already mourning me in advance?"
The next second, Gamora lunged into Quill's arms, sobbing softly.
