Chapter 96 - I Turn Monsters To Ash

Chase stood up, and audibly gasped.

It wasn't everyday he got to see his classmate having worse luck then him.

Neveah let out another terrible shriek, now seeming more terrified of the lurking student who had appeared out of thin air, then the killer dust bunnies.

Chase had put his arms above his head, and was still in multiple states of confusion when Neveah had suddenly jumped over one of the desks in front of her, and then did a front flip over a bookshelf.

Before he knew it, the girl had sprinted across the room and was now cowering behind him.

"Kill him first!"

She pleaded with the bunnies made of clouds of dust, who had all tilted their heads in unison.

'You're kidding, right?"

He thought, not even fully aware of his current situation.

"Wait, why is there a pile of cigarettes back here?"

She asked, her tone completely shifting to that of curiosity, as if she had forgotten about the previous minute and a half.

The bunnies began to hop toward them at terrifyingly impossible speeds, causing him to draw his blade out of pure panic.

Without even thinking, he called forth the flames that he had grown so used too. And before he knew it he was outstretching a flaming sword.

He would have thought it looked awesome, if not for the fact that it was the most unstable thing he had ever held.

Flames were dancing around the blade like a wild thunderstorm, and sparks were flying off like crazy. Each threatening to burn down the entire room at about six in the morning.

He was already known as the Stray with no affinity, and he didn't feel like being known as the Stray who had no affinity, and also burned the entire eastern branch of Phoenix Academy to ashes.

"Oops."

He said flatly, as he swung the blade over the desk, and directly at the first soaring dust bunny.

It dispersed into a cloud of smoke, as another came flying through right after it.

Neveah let out a shriek, or maybe it was Chase but he would had never told you that.

His blade flung straight upwards at the next bunny, and that one dispersed into even more smoke than the first.

Suddenly, as the next one had begun to charge him: Chase felt a powerful pressure begin to build up behind his nose.

"Oh no..."

Then as the next bunny had leaped from the other side of the room, and was soaring through the air like it should have been the starting attacker for the aetherball team: Chase let out the loudest sneeze known to mankind.

The flames on the sword flew forward, meeting the bunny in midair. Then the entire room had burst into a rain of ash and dust.

Any of the fire that had remained on his sword had died out in the next couple seconds, leaving him standing there completely motionless.

Neither him, or Neveah dared to make a sound.

The door was slowly pushed wide open, and Chase really wished that Poppy or Luke had decided to show up to class early today.

A giant dragon made entirely of dust was trying to force itself into the room.

And unluckily for Chase, he had most likely just incinerated the dust dragon's friends.

"Don't make a noise..."

Chase whispered, while becoming the one who was death gripping their blade in terror.

Then the worst possible thing that could have happened, happened.

"Ah chew!"

Neveah instantly covered her mouth the moment that it happened, but it was no use.

The dust dragon let out a terrible gargling-like roar, and immediately shot through the doorway, before either of them could react.

Well at least he thought that neither of them could react. The dragon let out a pained gargle, as it recoiled in pain.

Which he didn't even think that dust monsters could feel pain, but of course he was wrong.

Neveah had thrown a handful of used cigarettes right at the dragon, which deflected off of it and right onto the ground.

Chase sheathed his sword, which was already breaking the number one rule of fighting monsters, but he didn't really care at this point.

He grabbed Neveah by the hand, and pulled them both past the dragon that had still been in shock from the ranged cigarette attack.

They were seconds away from reaching the hallway, before the dragon let out another terrible roar.

And before either of them knew it, they had been consumed by a monstrous ball of dust.

However, that did not mean that they hadn't been able to flee.

They both sprinted about twenty or so doors down the hallway, all while sneezing and wiping their eyes frantically.

The two of them instinctively hid behind the next corridor, that led down the central branch of the academy.

Both Chase and Neveah were trying to hold back sneezes and sobs, okay maybe it was just him trying not to sob.

First he glanced at his dust covered friend, who's sandy blonde hair had been dyed gray by the terrible dragon.

Then he looked down at his uniform, only to see that the expensive black silks had been turned completely gray with dust.

Leaning his head back against the cold marble wall, he had to try his best to hold back a scream of frustration.

'I think I'm skipping morning classes from now on.'
