Chapter 17 - ENCOUNTER

"When do we go on that walk, darling?" Rhodes called out to her from his home on the dining chair. They made a promise to go on a walk every evening after Rhodes had found out she loved to sleep right after eating.

"Well, it's time now, isn't it?" She returned as she dragged her drowsy body up. The walks were really effective but the culture of her going to bed immediately after sleeping had been long embedded into her self.

The evening came with a cool breeze running through her hair as she moved, and Rhodes watched on mesmerized at the sight of her. He was about reaching out to run his hands through them when they were interrupted by a very familiar voice calling out Darla.

"Darla!"

"Darla, wait up!" And just as he said that he began running so he could catch up with them.

Yes, it was Jon. The brightest light bulb in the entire world, it was like he was cursed to stand in their way. Rhodes grew more and more annoyed at his sight and Darla's deadpan expression slowly morphing into one of her fake smiles.

"Jon, hello. What a pleasant surprise." She answered, her tone expressing the opposite of her words.

"Yes, Darla. And Riley? River? Or what was your name again?"

Rhodes watched unamused at this clown, he had no desire to even look at him, much less answer him.

"It's fine if you can't remember my name, Jon, I wouldn't want to suffer your intelligence like that, seeing as it's already lagging enough." Rhodes replied, sending a smile to Darla as he heard her chuckle.

Having failed to irritate his opponent but falling into a trap himself, Jon couldn't hold back and tried to lunge at him.

He looked just like a cornered rabbit, except he was the one who failed to provoke his opponent and now acting like a loser.

Rhodes, not one to pass up a fight sent a punch directly to the one offering up himself, he grabbed his neck and knocked him out directly, disgusted at wasting any more time on such trash.

"I'm sorry to dirty your eyes with that, darling. How did you even manage a friendship with such a person? He just wouldn't stop until he sees the grave, huh?" Rhodes commented just as they left Jon alone where he'd passed out.

"Well, I don't know what to say." She replied before bursting out in laughter.

"I can't promise to hold back the next time I see him. He's not only a loser that harbors ulterior motives towards you, but he's a dimwit too." Rhodes spat out in disgust, regretting how he hadn't dealt him more blows.

"Whatever you want, love, whatever you want!"
