Chapter 46 - Scene 9 - Justice for the truth

My name is Yuguchi, judge by vocation, bearer of the scales of justice in a world where truth is often veiled by the shadows of lies and deceit. Since my youth, I have been imbued with the ideal of justice, guided by the will to defend the oppressed and punish the guilty.

Every day, I stand before the marble columns of the courtroom, ready to deliver verdicts in the name of law and morality. The faces of plaintiffs and defendants pass before me, each bearing the weight of his or her own fate, each begging for an ounce of mercy or reparation.

Today, a particularly delicate case is about to unfold. A man, burdened by charges of treason and conspiracy, stands before me, his gaze tinged with palpable anguish. The evidence is overwhelming, the witnesses numerous, but behind the facade of certainty, I feel doubt creeping in.

My pen glides across the parchment, transcribing facts and arguments with meticulous precision. Each word is a step closer to the truth, each line a flash of lightning in the darkness of uncertainty. But just as I'm about to pronounce the verdict, a voice echoes in my mind, a faint but insistent voice, reminding me that justice is not just about deeds and words, but about the ability to listen to one's own heart.

I take a deep breath, leaving aside the shackles of legal rigor to listen to the echo of my conscience. And it is with renewed certainty that I pass judgment, not as a judge, but as a man, guided by the light of truth and the clarity of integrity.

After I have delivered my verdict, the disgruntled defendant loudly declares his innocence, his cries of protest echoing through the courtroom like an echo of despair. His words, imbued with rage and despair, echo in my mind as I leave the room, my mind tormented by doubt.

Months pass, yet the affair continues to haunt my thoughts. Remorse gnaws at my soul as I contemplate the decisions I've made, the words I've spoken. Then, one day, the truth bursts forth like a bolt of lightning in the darkness. New evidence, previously hidden, reveals the innocence of the accused. My heart sinks as I realize the magnitude of my error, the crushing weight of my responsibility.

Faced with this shocking revelation, I am confronted with a hard truth: the justice to which I have devoted my life, the justice I have sworn to serve, is far from infallible. It is subject to human error, prejudice and manipulation. And I was complicit in these weaknesses, blinded by my faith in a system that turned out to be imperfect.

It's in these dark moments that I realize that the true quest for justice lies not just in the judgments we make, but in our ability to recognize our own mistakes, learn from our failures and work towards a future where justice is truly blind, where every individual is treated with fairness and dignity.

In the heavy silence that followed his entrance on stage, Yuguchi Kokan found himself immersed in his own thoughts, revisiting memories of his past life. He recalled the flaws and injustices that marred the justice system of the old world, the sometimes irreparable mistakes made in the name of law and justice.

"Here, in this new world of mystery and fantasy, the rules will be different. The gods themselves will be the judges of your crime, and their verdict would suffer no ambiguity."

Yuguchi was aware of the heavy responsibility weighing on his shoulders. As a former judge, he was accustomed to examining evidence, hearing witnesses and passing judgment according to established laws. But in this unpredictable universe, where magic and the unknown reigned supreme, he knew that the rules of the game were different. The decisions he would make today could have irreversible consequences, not just for me, but for everyone involved.

Despite his doubts and apprehensions, Yuguchi knew he had to act with caution and objectivity. The verdict he would deliver would be scrutinized with particular attention, not only by him, but also by the mysterious forces that governed this world. In this room where destiny was being played out, he was preparing to face his own fate as judge and arbiter of truth.

Yuguchi's solemn gesture, extending his arm in a precise movement, was imbued with unquestionable authority as he invoked his mysterious power, the 'spotlight'. Under this brilliant illumination, I felt myself being lifted off the ground, carried towards the heavens in an irresistible rush. The sensation of lightness washed over me as I rose above the ground, leaving the torments of terra firma behind.

Suddenly, I found myself immersed in a celestial landscape of breathtaking beauty. The deep, pure blue sky stretched as far as the eye could see, dotted with cottony clouds and swallows fluttering gracefully through the air. Every shade of blue seemed to vibrate with divine energy, illuminating this celestial paradise with brilliant light.

At my side stood the goddess Themis, a majestic and imposing entity evoking the grandeur of the titans of ancient times. Her transcendent presence radiated power and authority, her translucent figure evoking the purity of celestial forces. In her hands, she carried her famous scales, a symbol of justice and fairness, in which I sat, witness to my own destiny. The goddess's eyes were blindfolded with a white cloth, testifying to her neutrality and impartiality in the judgment that was to follow.

In this breathtaking place, between heaven and earth, I prepared to face the ultimate truth, to be judged according to divine laws through Yuguchi's directives.

As I floated in the heavens, in this celestial universe with its ethereal contours, Yuguchi's voice reached me, sounding like a soothing whisper in the tumult of my tormented thoughts.

"Don't worry, your judgment will take place according to the rules of the divinatory art."

His words resonated with reassuring assurance, assuring me that my judgment would proceed with fairness and justice.

Suddenly, a surreal apparition materialized on the other side of the scale, representing my own being. There stood my celestial double, an incarnation of myself at this decisive moment in my life, but devoid of all emotion. Even in the face of this momentous scene, I remained motionless, depicted as an ethereal, disembodied figure, lost in the twists and turns of my own depression.

The scales, silent witnesses to my fate, swayed gently in the air, weighing every aspect of my being with divine precision. In this moment suspended between heaven and earth, between truth and judgment, I remained a prisoner of my own inner torment, unable to feel anything other than the emptiness and apathy that had overtaken me.

In the spotlight entitled "The Equity of Themis", I found myself placed on a holographic scale, held by the goddess Themis herself, suspended in the heavens. On the other side of this scale stood my alter-ego, a projection of myself in this celestial universe. Judgment then took place on these scales, symbolizing divine justice and fairness.

In the spotlight entitled "The Equity of Themis", I found myself placed on a holographic scale, held by the goddess Themis herself, suspended in the heavens. On the other side of this scale stood my alter-ego, a projection of myself in this celestial universe. Judgment was now taking place on these scales, symbolizing divine justice and fairness.

"The weight of your guilt or innocence will be determined by the tilt of the scales. If the scales tilt more to your side, you will be declared guilty. This decision will be final, and the consequences irrevocable. Once the verdict has been pronounced, you will know your destiny. You will fall from the heavens, a descent into uncertainty where fate or mercy will depend on your fortune."

This holographic representation of the scales of divine justice embodied fairness and truth, revealing the ultimate nature of my judgment in this fantasy world where the gods themselves arbitrated the fate of souls.

In this situation, I let it happen without the slightest protest. The tension was palpable as the scales, under the influence of a mystical aura, seemed to weigh our innocence, metaphorically measuring guilt or innocence between my alter ego and myself.

[The scales -The fairness of Themis- are about to give their judgment].

After a few moments that seemed to last an eternity, the scales of Themis delivered their verdict.

[The scales -Themis' equity- tipped in your alter-ego's favor].

It tilted slightly more towards my alter-ego than mine. It was an affirmation of my innocence, a decision that resounded in the heavens like a divine declaration.

Yuguchi, as judge and arbiter of this trial, could only confirm this conclusion, thus acknowledging my purity in this matter.

As I returned to Earth, Yuguchi announced the verdict to the others.

"So how did it go?" asked Kaisho.

"I proceeded well, that Bun is innocent in this case."

"Really?"

He even pointed out that I looked totally empty inside. Some then murmured that we were back to square one if I wasn't the culprit.

"But then who orchestrated all this?"

While everyone was wondering who had done it, Saé set out to find the boy who had spied on us earlier. When she finally found him, she confronted him with his actions.

"Wait, don't go! It was you who intentionally placed the food on the field that had exploded, wasn't it?"

The boy denied vigorously, asking who she was to accuse him so.

"I don't know what you're talking about Madame. Besides, I don't even know you!"

But Saé didn't allow herself to be intimidated.

"Don't play innocent, I saw you spying on us. I remember you very well."

She reminded him that he had been spying on us, having noticed the half-serpent, half-tiger monster tattoo on his neck. Thanks to her mastery of observation, Saé's vision missed no details.

In a last gesture of defense, the young boy replied.

"Look, I didn't put food or anything on a field, though..."

His voice changed radically. A slight tremor, tinged with growing fear could be discerned.

"I was on a mission to eliminate a certain Bun, but now that I haven't succeeded, I'm going to be in serious trouble."
