Chapter 60 - Chapter 58

A scientist's voice rang out, sharp and excited. "She's awake!!"

The scientists all turned their heads toward the glass chamber, where Iris laid on the cold metal table, her eyes fluttering open like a puppet returning to life.

"They ordered us to return her to her room before proceeding with the next round of experiments," one of the men in white coats announced flatly, already scribbling notes onto his clipboard.

Another scientist, standing near the doorway, let out a quiet sigh as he watched Iris slowly sit up. "I almost feel... pity for her," he muttered, shaking his head. "To survive all those painful procedures."

A sharp, dry chuckle rolled out from Iris's lips, "Better not waste a useless emotion like pity on me," she whispered coldly, lifting her head to meet his gaze. Her eyes held no warmth, they seemed dead for a moment. "After all, what about all the other children who suffered? The ones who died for nothing?"
