"Mother" Emelda called out with a bowed head. Her mother dismissed her warrior chiefs and beckoned her daughter to come forward.
"What bothers you this time? The queen asked. Emelda simply sighed.
"I was wondering if you could fill me on the rest of what Goldwyn said, since my telepathy couldn't uncover everything"
"Why not? the queen smiled. "You are my daughter after all".
{Unfortunately, the spineless traitor couldn't give us any real information regarding Draghyr's base but he did mention some vital info concerning the twelve warriors who are in the Dragon's round table}.
{So Draghyr has knights like humans?
Emelda asked; her raised eyebrow being the only outward sign that she had even said anything.
{Apparently yes, I couldn't find out what race each of them hail from but there was something that captured my attention}.
{Each of them are named after a particular element and the one called 'Fire' was the person who brought Vilfortz back to this realm and pulled the strings behind the formation of the Brotherhood}.
{Did Goldwyn know the remaining's name or looks? Emelda asked.
The queen leaned back into the chair and shook her head. {He didn't and was hell bent on saying nothing but one hammer strike to his balls brought everything coming out}
{Quite funny right?
To her surprise Emelda only gulped, obviously not finding it funny, the queen frowned on noticing that, cursing the fact that she had inherited her late father's dull sense of humor.
{Like I was saying earlier, Goldwyn wasn't able to see their faces and had only met them once; when they had arrived our realm for what they called 'Fallen' business, regardless he did mention that each of them were dressed in full sets of ominous armor that couldn't betray their race though three of the twelve seemed to be way over eight feet",
{I don't get it, though? Emelda frowned. {Why they would put certain telepathic blocks in his mind but yet didn't put any checkmate spell that would prevent him from talking in the event of torture?
{That's because they wanted him to be found out) the queen laughed.
{Why?}
The queen shrugged {They probably assumed the two had outlived their usefulness since the attack and as for your earlier question; it's quite simple really, not everything one sees can he explain and telepathy is so dangerous that even long forgotten memories can be accessed, which means that they didn't consider what he has seen to be so important that it must be kept secret, and at the same time it also means that Goldwyn saw something not noteworthy to him but very important to them.
{The question that remains is what?}
Emelda nodded in understanding of everything her mother had just said.
{There is still a lot of things that don't make sense}.
{The first being that how is inter realm travel so easy now, it wasn't hard to send people to other realms but to come back; I don't think that has ever been heard of".
"I and the other rulers will be having a meeting with the Phoenix in two days, all this and more will be discussed there". Flowyria smiled.
"Can I come? Emelda beamed.
The queen dashed her hopes with a shake of her head. "Not now, I still don't trust anyone in there especially the Sun; since one of their very own Supremes tried to capture you".
Emelda's anger on her request being rejected didn't last for long, because her mother had just mentioned something relating to the question that had been bothering her recently.
"I still don't know why they were even after me in the first place".
Queen Flowyria squeezed her throne's armrest. "I don't know that either but I swear that they will all pay for daring to even touch you.
"Do you still have anything you wish to discuss?
The princess thought hard for a little and finally asked a final one. "Is Goldwyn still alive?
The queen stared into her daughter's eyes hard. "You already know the answer".
Emelda didn't say anything and only watched as her mother accompanied by two maids left the throne room.
"Poor elves "she sighed. "I wonder whether things could have been different if everyone was treated fairly".
"I think it is high time I pay the flower and leaf a visit".
....
"Finally got him" Matilda smiled, sweeping out the dead roach with a big sense of pride.
"Should we be concerned that our favorite Alchemy is now infested?
"I swear that was the first roach I've ever seen in years". Matilda fired back as she slowly turned around to see the speaker.
"It's really been some time Dianne".
"Nice to see you too" Dianne coughed. "Never really saw what everyone enjoys here".
"How dare you" Matilda wagged a finger. "Elyria is beautiful, sunny and fresh at this time of the year, what's not to love".
Dianne only stared into the sun and shook her head "I'm more of an inside person".
"Then try the cloudy lakes" Matilda advised as she helped Dianne in.
"So what brings you here?
Dianne drew her shawl closer and spoke. "I was wondering if you still have 'it' ".
"I knew you didn't just come for a friendly visit". Matilda smiled.
"Maybe some other time". Dianne coughed.
Matilda nodded and disappeared into the curtains.
*Sniff*
"This smell" Dianne's face wrinkled in disgust. "Why is it fresh".
"After all these years, they still live?
"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting" Matilda apologized; walking carefully as she struggled to carry the heaven wooden box.
To Matilda's surprise, her visitor didn't acknowledge her presence and kept on sniffing the air.
"I cleaned this place earlier didn't I? And last time I checked, those perfumes still work". Matilda dropped the box on the floor and tapped Diane's shoulder.
"OH, you're back? Diane smiled nervously; her eyes still having that trace of shock. "I'm really grateful".
"Don't mention it, after all it's only because of you, these old bag of bones are still here" Matilda laughed.
Diane gave a small groan as she bent down to open the box's lid.
*Cough*
Her withered hands shook with joy as she reached into the dark box with a smile.
Matilda peeked over the older woman's shoulder in order to see what was in the box that had been lying in her room for the past thirty years.
Normally her curiosity would have taken the best of her in those years but Dianne's warning always prevented her from checking what the old woman had called 'Death in a Box'.
"Come to think of it" Matilda frowned. "I remember her being seventy-five that time meaning she should be around a hundred and five; pretty old for a human.
And yet she still carries herself with such grace that would make one think she was in her early eighties or late seventies.
"Anything special about it? Matilda asked.
Diane removed the red covering and allowed Matilda to take a better look at what she was holding.
"It's beautiful" Matilda smiled, shielding her eyes from the bright light coming from the golden blade.
Diane didn't say anything and placing the covering back, she made her way towards the door.
"Thanks for everything Matilda" Diane stopped at the door. "Take this for all of your problems".
Matilda caught the gold bag tossed to her. "I've always wanted to ask you".
"What's so special about that knife and why did you keep it in the hands of a simple alchemist?
Dianne's right leg was already out of the door as she gave her reply.
"I'm sorry, I can't tell you anything about this blade or why after all these years it's now I decided to carry it. Anyways, the reason I kept the knife here is simple; no one will expect such a treasure to be in the hands of an alchemist.
"Lastly before I forget". Diane tapped her chin in thought. "Did you have any suspicious new visitor here?
Matilda shook her head. "Not a soul".
"You are even my first human visitor this year".
"I'll take your word on it".
And just like that the old woman left.
Matilda made sure that Dianne had gone out of sight before she finally heaved a sigh of relief. "That woman never changes; I just hope that this will be the last time our paths cross again".
