Kingsly Scott looked down at her with arrogance, his eyes cold and unyielding even as blood trickled from her forehead. "Are you sure this is the only answer you can give me?"
Rachel Foster leaned against the wall, feeling as if all the blood in her body had congealed, leaving her as lifeless as a corpse, save for the blood seeping from her forehead.
She refused to meet the gaze of the man towering over her. The emotional wounds had broken her physically, leaving her weak. It took all her strength to respond, "This is all I know, whether you believe it or not."
"What about the letter Daniel gave you?"
Kingsly was clearly unsatisfied with her response, a cunning glint flashing in his dark eyes.
"Daniel showed me the letter, but he took it back after I read it," she said slowly, enunciating each word clearly. "In the letter, my parents told me they had made a grave mistake and would soon atone for it with their lives... They asked me to take care of my younger siblings."
