Chapter 71 - Figures - Chapter 14

"Good attempt Iris! You gave it a good shot!"

Dante stood alone as the last participant, clearly standing out from everyone else who'd already participated. Their eyes were glued to him in the moment as his claps began to slowly die down, realizing the attention he drew. He felt bad that she was being talked about by everyone, so he thought maybe giving her some encouragement would help her out.

She looked up from her embarrassment to see him clapping and walking forward to the spot where everyone conducted their trail. The headmaster lifted his bushy eyebrows to see the boy standing confidently in the spot.

"And who do we have here…?"

"Dante! Dante Dovetail is my name, and I come all the way from Riverant!"

"Oh? Out by the Eurus Mountains, correct? Glad you could make it here!"

"Glad to be here! Now let's see what I can do."

"Oho! What a delight to have such a fired up student! Let's see what you can do! This will be the last trail everyone, so pay close attention!"

Dante stood confidently with his wand out.

"I only really made a show to get the attention off of her…I'd hate to be in her shoes being such a low rank…" he thought to himself as he readied himself.

"But I have to do my best on this trail, it's time to go for broke!"

His final thought came through in the moment the headmaster said his first spell. From what Dante understood, it was just casting the correct words and centering the feeling that Terra described before, he felt with this advice he could at least complete one of the spells. A confident smirk plastered over his face as the words left the headmaster's mouth.

"Bolis."

"Bolis!"

In the moment of speaking the word, Dante remembered what Terra told him and how Jasper casted the spell himself. He pointed the wand to the sky just as he did before and tried to concentrate his mana to the singular point.

"Now to just fire…"

A spark was felt within the wand but then quickly faded as a wispy wind of smoke appeared on the tip of his wand. He looked at it in shock as it went out before he could even fire it. Everyone tilted their heads in confusion at what had happened, even the headmaster. Dante smacked the wand slightly as if it was a broken knickknack you'd find around.

"C'mon stupid wand, work your magic…!" He whispered to himself as the headmaster continued, even though he seemed slightly confused as to why he couldn't cast the spell. He continued on quickly, firing out a spell name for Dante to cast.

"Aqua Ruptis."

"This is a water spell right? Let me try to shoot it off…This time with a little more oomph!" he thought quickly before yelling out the spell's name this time. Hoping for a much bigger reaction than previously.

"AQUA RUPTIS!"

Once again as he pointed his wand and struck a strong pose, hoping to see a reaction, yet his wand didn't react and nothing occurred, causing the crowd to tilt their head to the other direction in confusion. This is clearly not what he was hoping for when it came to making a presentation amongst the many students in the courtyard. He stood aloof and shocked at the fact that nothing came off his spell.

"Uh-oh this guy stinks too."

"Scrubs at the end, makes sense enough."

"At least his cloak is somewhat cool."

He looked at his wand once more before smacking it and himself intensely on his cheeks with both hands, causing a resounding vibration to be heard amongst the courtyard. Birds began to fly quickly out of the surrounding bushes as he continued to hype himself up. Some snickers and laughs came from the crowd as the headmaster looked at Dante.
