Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Second Night

Vae and Aria made quick work of the other bandits that were around as Mason finished off the big guy. Thud! He fell over unconscious on the ground, just like the others that Aria and Vae handles.

They managed to do all of this without any bloodshed which was a miracle in itself since most would have killed these guys without a second thought. Not this group though, They knew that Mason wasn't going to kill anyone here.

Vae typically avoided it when she could to begin with but Aria didn't really have a good reason not to kill anyone. Even so, she let them all live.

Managing to do this without killing anyone was a big step in my journey that I'm glad I could achieve. I don't want to shed blood of people to make a point, this will be humiliating enough for them.

Losing to a bunch of people from out of town who didn't even fully utilize magic against them, yeah I'd be embarrassed.

"What's next?" Aria chimes in, interrupting his thoughts.

I didn't even think about that since I didn't expect this to go down as easy as it did. It's still pretty early in the day but I doubt this is the only hideout they have. I'm sure they have to be in another one around here somewhere.

"Let's find the other hideout. I'd rather handle this now before we head back to the inn for the night." Mason responds while looking ahead.

The day goes by. Without any issues they had managed to put a stop to the Silvin gang for the time being. No one would be tormented by them in this kingdom for quite some time at least.

Most of the gang made sure to remember Mason's face since he would be the one they have to get rid of in the future. That's not how Mason looked at it though, he wants to change things without killing.

One of the hardest things to do in a world that was built around war and constant bloodshed to make it what it is today.

It wasn't hard to find our way back to the inn here but I didn't expect to fight that much in one day. I'm sure the people will be grateful about what we did since we just made their lives easier.

I can't say the same for the guards though since they were being given coin on a daily basis. We probably took a good source of income away from them but they need to do their jobs anyway.

"People are bound to talk about us, just expect it." Vae gives a heads up as they walk through the main room of the inn.

Vae was already talked about since she's a hero unlike me or Aria but now we have a small reputation, thanks to what we did. I'm okay with building up a reputation as long as it's done the right way and for the right reasons.

I don't know how far it'll spread with the reputation of this kingdom being bad, but it could help. Then again I've also got to be cautious since I was originally supposed to be killed with my family.

It's been quite a bit of time since then but I know they're still looking for me out there, I'm not stupid enough to think otherwise.

People talked all around the room as they made their way past them, eventually reaching the room without any issues. Nothing bad was being said about them, all good things since someone finally decided to help with their problem.

Mason just didn't want to chance anything with stopping to talk to anyone, mostly because of his troubled past with the soldiers who killed his family.

Aria jumped onto her bed without any hesitation. "I don't know about you guys but I'm tired. Goodnight!" She shouts before closing her eyes.

She's been a little less talkative today but I think it's just been a long day today so that does take a bit of a toll. I'm happy to have them both here with me though, two great companions who got my back.

At least I know I can trust them so that makes things easier going forward but I still need to learn more about them.

Aria is a bit harder to get to know since she's got little memory of her past and is kind of a mystery altogether. Vae has a lot to her since she's a hero that's been traveling the lands and helping with the war effort.

I'm glad she joined us for this journey, having a hero will make a big difference down the road.

"Goodnight Aria." Mason and Vae both say before taking a seat by the window.

It's the second night in this kingdom and I don't think there's too much keeping us here any longer. I'll make some final adjustments to the device tomorrow and then we can make our way out of here.

I have yet to figure out the exact destination I need to go but what I do know is that I've got to be really strong. My training needs to stay consistent and so does my exercises.

Staying in shape is a huge part of how I got my strength to begin with but sometimes I seem way stronger than I expected.

"Need help watching over that device of yours?" Vae asks with a bit of a small chuckle after.

Mason looks towards her and gives a brief chuckle back before speaking. "Yeah you can help me out. It's beautiful out tonight." Mason responds with a small smile across his face.

The moon was shining bright and the stars filled the skies, it truly was a beautiful night indeed. No chatter amongst the streets, just some muffled talking downstairs and some slight celebration cheers.

People were happy for the time being and Mason's group was good to sleep for the night.

"You can lay on my lap again. I'll watch over it first." Vae says while gesturing for him to lay down.
